I have a 2024 Premium with extended battery and about 8500 miles. I purchased the car with about 7300 miles on it about 4 months ago. I bumped (less than 2 miles an hour)a pole with my front bumper (very small nick in center of bumper, hardly noticeable). About 10 days later, after having driven multiple times, the message ā€œpre-collision assist not availableā€ appeared and no adaptive cruise control. Dealer tells me this not covered by warranty. I’m waiting on dealer repair estimate as they tell me front sensor needs to be replaced. What should I expect as the cost for this repair? I find it hard to believe such a light bumper tap took out the sensor.

Why would a sensor, broken by you hitting a pole, be covered by warranty?

Bracket breaks easily.

I'm not claiming this is a warranty matter. I'm just trying to learn about a reasonable repair cost and whether to make an insurance claim

Whomever is going to fix it is going to need to remove the front bumper cover. If the front RADAR is still intact and it's just a broken or bent bracket, the bracket will need to be replaced. If the front RADAR is damaged, it will need to be replaced. Assuming the front RADAR is fine, labor and such for removing the front bumper cover and replacing the bracket would be somewhere in the $3K-$4K range, plus paint work for the bumper cover, maybe $5K-$5.5K total? You would get a more accurate estimate in going to a body shop or two to have them look at it in person. šŸ¤”šŸ©

Thanks for the reply. To say this is disappointing is an understatement for a bump that left but an 1/8 inch hairline mark on the bumper. Maybe I'll just live without the pre collision and adaptive cruise.

i would wonder why the message didn’t show up for 10 days, possibly a coincidence? I would disconnect the 12v for a few minutes then connect and see if the message is still there. My knowledge of cars is very limited so may be way off base, but have had my share of odd glitches that have worked themselves out. This forum has many many examples of people fixing multiple issues by disconnecting the 12v. Just m2cw.

Really? When I had my grille replaced, they took the bumper off, replaced the grille, and put it back on for $500

That's what the body shop charged my insurance company for fixing the splitter that got damaged by a parking stop and realigning the front RADAR. As I said, get an estimate from a body shop since they all charge a bit differently. šŸ¤”šŸ©
