I would suggest not going to your Ford dealer, but going to a good body shop.

They can complete all of those repairs if they know what they're doing.
File insurance claim. See what body shop is certified. My experience with a much larger claim was excellent with a Ford EV certified dealer collision shop. Serra Ford in Farmington Hills Michigan was outstanding and only limited by supply chain availability. Body work was outstanding and electronics functioning perfectly.

thanks everyone

I called it in to insurance today and they just took my info and basically said I have to wait for someone to call back to discuss next steps. I figuredit might take a couple week to fix or what not, but a little worried about where I may need to take it. Like will I need to send it to the body shop then Ford?
Just gives me anxiety thinking that whoever fixes it won’t know wtf they’re doing! Oh well, gotta get it done regardless.
Appreciate everyone’s feedback, it’s helpful
When my glass roof was damaged the first call I made was to the Collision Assistance contact on the FordPass app. I asked for names of Ford-certified collision shops near me and then asked for the same one(s) when I connected with my insurance company. They matched up. Good luck, and UGH! Hope it's less than meets the eye and is resolved soon.

While driving home from the dealer after completing my purchase the car in front of me rolled over what turned out to be a lid from a styrofoam cooler.

The lid flew up into the air and slammed into the front of my car that I had owned for less than 3 miles. I was traveling at about 45 miles an hour at the time.

When I got home I fully expected to see something horrible like what you saw but I was lucky and there was no damage.

I hope you can get your car fixed correctly and quickly.

I mean you were correct to be worried...essentially that is what took out the second space shuttle.

Hello All,

Posting today to get some info and/or advise.
I was driving down the interstate today on an 8-10 lane highway. I’m in the far left lane. To the left is the median and to the right I a row of moving cars. All of a sudden I see what looks like a bunch of small black trash bags flying everywhere. A few of whatever they were ended up directly in my driving path, and it was either run them over or swerve into the median/moving vehicles.
I run over the objects and they were solid, definitely not a bag or anything alike. A loud bang, crash, and grinding sound. To me, it sounded like a sharp thud and grind as the objects passed under my car.
After saying a few choice words, I realize my Mach E is not slowing down as it approach other cars (was in hands free driving mode). Turn cruise on/off and mess with the setting and nothing fixed it. When I get off the highway and am close to home, I stop to see if there was any damage.
What I see is a gaping, round hole in the middle of the vent on the front bumper. I couldn’t see the damage underneath the car, but could see electronic/car parts hanging in/out of the hole.
I call the insurance and they file the claim and tell me someone will contact within 48 hours for next steps.
Had anyone else had something similar happen to them? Where they hit something and it damages the front vent and front sensor (no smart driving)? If so, how long did it take to get repaired? Did you have to take your Mach E to multiple locations? Did the Ford dealership do anything on the technology repairs? My previous experience with my local Ford dealer sucked. They were supposedly an EV Ford dealer but broke my car before.

Any help and advice would be much, much appreciated. I am super stressed and irritated about this! I have bad luck. Before I got the Mach E, my previous car got busted on the same road from something flying out of the back of a pickup in front of me…2 times in less than 15 months! Ahhhhhhh!

Luckily you didn't crash. Insurance will fix it all like hitting a deer. Low deductible. Good luck....

Have that car brought to a dealer , put on a hoist and check that battery skateboard with a fine tooth comb. Don't assume this damage is the only damage you took.

Just wanted to add.................

I used Ford for the repair. My insurance at the time was GEICO. Dealer warned me that they "may" balk because of the car being BEV. Not my experience at all. They settled up with me in less than 48hrs and I had money in my bank. The small radiator held things up for a few days due to stocking issues but in the end everything was back good as new.

This happened to us. Empty 5 gal plastic bucket came flying down the road and my wife hit it. Went to dealer and they sent me to a body shop. Did not use their’s. I was able to reach in behind the plastic grill and remount the sensor into its bracket. Everything cruise control started working. Repairs took a while to get parts as it was 2021. Several thousand to fix, but did not count as chargeable accident. I’ll bet your sensor is good, but not being held in the right place.

So I talked to the insurance people. Basically they said they have certified repair shops that will cover any further damage or if anything goes wrong with what is repaired. If I were to take it to my place of choosing, I would be responsible if any further damage/issues with what gets fixed occurred. The earliest it could been seen for an estimate is 2/21, and from there they’d order parts etc and once everything comes in the schedule the repair. I can get a rental for 30 days. So, if I were to get a rental right away, my car may not even been at the shop being repaired. The insurance lady said if my car is drivable that I should drive it and wait for the repair to take place before renting a car. I’m worried driving mostly on the interstate that more damage will occur. I guess if I drive it until 2/21, it won’t really matter, but after that I’m in a tight spot

A very similar thing just (like an hour ago) happened to me but my radiator is hissing so I'm guessing repairs will be a lot more expensive. This is the 4th time mine will have been in the body shop in the last year too! ?

Holy crap, 4x in a year?!?! I would lose my mind if my car got damaged that many times over a year. I’d be about ready to call it quits at that point.
Side-note update. The repair shop did an estimate on the esthetic damage but went no further. Called the insurance lady about it and she said when they take the car apart they will check for more/mechanical damage. If there’s more damage they’ll order more parts and fix it whenever the parts come in…whenever that may be. I’m worried the shop won’t check or won’t check well enough and there will still be issues. The last time i drove it my wife said it sounded loud. She could never hear me pull in but heard it the last time. I’m thinking there’s no way a hole in the vent and a busted sensor would increase the nosiness of my car, but who knows I’m not a mechanic. My plan is to make sure I remind the repair people to do a through check when taking it apart. If there’s still issues after it’s “fixed” I will tell my insurance they didn’t fix everything, or something. Ahhh what a headache

Jeez, I hate to be a member of this Radar Buster Club.

Ford needs to redesign this Radar mount bracket! Replace it with a metal bracket!!

Here's my tale of whoa. I was on a ski vacation in Northcentral Washington (Methow Valley). Middle of a cold snap, huge amounts of snow (well, not like the San Bernadino's, for sure.) Some nights at 0° F, days <10. During this time I received OTA 4.1.2. Then I noticed that Precollision Prevention as well as Blue Cruise were nonfunctional or flashing on the screen at startup. I blamed it on the update. Weeks later I called Ford Central and walked it through. Making no progress with this and that, I suggested that maybe the radar was broken because both work out of radar. Ford set up a case # and referred me to the dealer.

No dents, no scratches on the front. Plastic license cover was also unscathed and unmarked. Dealer took it apart and found that the bracket was broken. So, it must have been an accident, my fault, no warranty coverage. And, while you got it apart, he said, I recommend to replace the bracket AND THE RADAR. Yup: $1280. (I never thought of reporting to insurance.)

I didn't have any accident. Remember, no scratch on the exterior. Then I recalled a very slow (1 mph at most) touch of a hard snow bank while parking.

Broken bracket at 1 mph? Brittle plastic at 0° F? Ford has a defect here. So, my handle on this Forum is "Ford Family". I was born in Dearborn. Father worked in Detroit auto industry all his career, twenty last years at Ford. My sister received a full ride to University on a Ford Scholarship. In 1960 I had my congenital heart valve defect repaired with 50 units of blood donated by ...Ford colleagues. I thought I'd help the company and make a suggestion. I called and reported to Ford Central with a suggestion to change the radar bracket with a metal design. What a concept! Oh, and perhaps for that you might cover my charges under warranty? I haven't heard anything from Ford Central and I ain't holding my breath.

I don't think they can make the bracket out of metal because the reflections would affect the radar signal. However I do agree there is evidence mounting of a design defect with the radar bracket, I've seen them broken numerous times now with little to no external damage. The way it's mounted the radar sensor can "flop" back and forth like a ruler plucked over a countertop edge since it hangs down from the bumper. Seems like eventually the material fatigues and cracks when going over a bump. I think it should be redesigned with additional strengthening.

I also think Ford should cover this under warranty since there is no evidence of a collision. See if you can contact your case manager and dispute their conclusions.

If the sensor itself is undamaged, they should just be able to replace the bracket, which would be much cheaper.

FYI, after haggling between body shop and my insurance company the total repair ended up costing $3579.81 ($1696 of which was the parts)

Mine was a fox on a very foggy and rainy 5AM drive in the dark. I was travelling about 65km/h (in an 80 km/h zone) due to very low visibility. Less than a metre behind me was an aggressive pick up or full size SUV with his high beams flashing and then, I saw the fox. Not a big one likely, his eyes were not that far off the road. At the last second he decided to cross in front of me. I hit the brakes, but not too hard since I was more worried about the massive truck so close behind that I indeed hit the fox. I drove the rest of the way to work and once daylight arrived. I checked out the damage .

The passenger side active shutters where broken, pieces missing, and what remained was hanging on. The centre panel under the bumper was pushed in a cm or so but otherwise unscathed.

I assumed I had $500.00 or so in damage and was hoping not to contact insurance. A stop at the dealership after work had them send me to a body shop. I drove it down the street and after 30 minutes of appraisal I was told the initial estimate was about $3100.00!! The next morning my insurance company asked me to take it to their own appraiser but assured me that it was covered.

Their appraiser sent in his info and I received an email stating that the $6500.00 claim was approved and that a rental car was already booked for me once I dropped off Otto (that's his name ) .

The body shop called to let me know that they would have a repair date scheduled as soon as all the parts arrived.

Everything but one part came in within 48 hrs so I was quite excited. I assumed a few days more for that final condenser unit for the HV battery cooling system and all would be well.

The collision occurred in October of 2022 and the condenser finally arrived in February of 2023 and the install took place 3 weeks ago. The final charge to the insurance was $9500.00 CAD less my $500.00 deductible. During the first week of March, I actually got to try out my "new" winter tires and wheels on actual snow after owning them for more than 3 months... Thankfully they and the car handle Niagara ice storms and lake effect squalls rather well.

As someone mentioned here much earlier, since it was an animal collision, this claim does not appear on my record. I still have my 40+ year clean driving record!! Likely I just jinxed myself putting that in writing.....
