Hello All,

Posting today to get some info and/or advise.
I was driving down the interstate today on an 8-10 lane highway. I’m in the far left lane. To the left is the median and to the right I a row of moving cars. All of a sudden I see what looks like a bunch of small black trash bags flying everywhere. A few of whatever they were ended up directly in my driving path, and it was either run them over or swerve into the median/moving vehicles.
I run over the objects and they were solid, definitely not a bag or anything alike. A loud bang, crash, and grinding sound. To me, it sounded like a sharp thud and grind as the objects passed under my car.
After saying a few choice words, I realize my Mach E is not slowing down as it approach other cars (was in hands free driving mode). Turn cruise on/off and mess with the setting and nothing fixed it. When I get off the highway and am close to home, I stop to see if there was any damage.
What I see is a gaping, round hole in the middle of the vent on the front bumper. I couldn’t see the damage underneath the car, but could see electronic/car parts hanging in/out of the hole.
I call the insurance and they file the claim and tell me someone will contact within 48 hours for next steps.
Had anyone else had something similar happen to them? Where they hit something and it damages the front vent and front sensor (no smart driving)? If so, how long did it take to get repaired? Did you have to take your Mach E to multiple locations? Did the Ford dealership do anything on the technology repairs? My previous experience with my local Ford dealer sucked. They were supposedly an EV Ford dealer but broke my car before.

Any help and advice would be much, much appreciated. I am super stressed and irritated about this! I have bad luck. Before I got the Mach E, my previous car got busted on the same road from something flying out of the back of a pickup in front of me…2 times in less than 15 months! Ahhhhhhh!

I would suggest not going to your Ford dealer, but going to a good body shop.

They can complete all of those repairs if they know what they're doing.

It is the forward radar module hanging there. There is a good chance that it is not broken and it is only the plastic middle part. You could try to make it look forward again with some duct tape and see whether cruise control works again.

Had a similar issue, in my case not caused by running into stuff but someone running a red light and hitting the car in front of mine, which spun out and hit ours. Damage looked fairly minimal to me. There was a small hole puncture in part of the front assembly, but they ended up having to replace the shutter assembly and headlight as well.

When they were putting everything back together they broke the nozzle cover that washes the front camera when you use the wipers with fluid. All told it was about $5k, but since we're not at fault it will be a hopefully refundable $500 deductible. And sadly, you should budget 2-3 weeks without your Mach-E due to parts and logistics. Car looks safe enough for you to drive as long as there isn't any battery damage, so if you need it for an upcoming trip it's probably fine.

thanks everyone

I called it in to insurance today and they just took my info and basically said I have to wait for someone to call back to discuss next steps. I figuredit might take a couple week to fix or what not, but a little worried about where I may need to take it. Like will I need to send it to the body shop then Ford?
Just gives me anxiety thinking that whoever fixes it won’t know wtf they’re doing! Oh well, gotta get it done regardless.
Appreciate everyone’s feedback, it’s helpful

Many Ford dealers have body shops.

While driving home from the dealer after completing my purchase the car in front of me rolled over what turned out to be a lid from a styrofoam cooler.

The lid flew up into the air and slammed into the front of my car that I had owned for less than 3 miles. I was traveling at about 45 miles an hour at the time.

When I got home I fully expected to see something horrible like what you saw but I was lucky and there was no damage.

I hope you can get your car fixed correctly and quickly.

I had a similar incident. Took a chunk of truck tire to the shutters. It knocked the sensor out of its bracket which causes the same thing you described with the cruise not working as it should. I was able to put the sensor back in its bracket and it worked fine.

Repair cost $1800 +/-. New shutter assembly, it's the whole black piece bumper to bumper, replaced the small radiator and recalibrate all the front sensors. Had a $1000 deductible.....in hind sight I would have just paid the whole thing but wasn't sure of total cost until the claim was rolling so I just went with it

We had a 3rd party shop fix up our Volvo with similar damage, they did great, no issues with all the sensors after. I wouldn't be too concerned if you go that route.

Wow it was run crap over day yesterday. I took part as well. Thankfully the 3 gallon plastic container I blasted on the freeway went under the car, but I hit it square, not thinking of the radar. It went under, got wedged and proceeded to stick with me for a 1/2 mile while i was trying to get out of the HOV and off the road (no pull out area in the HOV) 3 lanes over the thing let go and looked like I'd hit a goose out the back of my car. I'll be under it again later today because that's what I do a lot of lately.

Good luck on your repair, let us know how it goes.
