@markboris I’m looking at the tsw Sebring wheels and they offer a 20x8.5 +40mm offset which other members run without issue .

I want to go wider in the rear. Will a 20x10 +40 fit ?

Hi Randy,
20x10 will fit in the rear no problem but I normally run an offset of +47 with that size wheel. That gives me a flush fitment of the tire sidewall to the wheel lip moulding. +40 they will poke out a bit like 1/4". You can lessen that a bit by not going with a really wide tire. 275/40/20 would be the narrowest you should run with that wheel. I suspect you will run 245/45/20 tires up front on the 20x8.5 wheels. Both of those sizes are the same diameter so you will be ok there. Hope I answered you question and let me know if you have any others.

Mark thank you first of all.

The whole point of a wider wheel in the rear of the car was for a “staggered” look. Having the wire stick out beyond the fender flare to me looks tacky. I guess that’s why no one went with the 20x10 tsw sebring in the rear.

Now I have to make a hard decision if I want to go with the 20x8.5 all the way around or try to find a wheel that comes in an offset around 45 - 47mm.

Is there some sort of calculator that has a mach-e in their database for figuring out max width of rear wheel I can run ? I’ve been googling and the problem is the mache isn’t in their databases ?

@markboris if I go with a 8.5 wide wheel how flush will the wheel be with the fender flare ? Like how many inches away would it be ?

You are welcome Randy.

Yes, agree with you on the look of a staggered setup, as it is mainly for the looks but does have other benefits. I agree that tires that poke out beyond the wheel lip moulding look tacky but that is our opinion. Many people like that look.

There is no wheel/suspension calculator that I am aware of that has the Mach-E in their database.

I assume you mean if you go with an 8.5" wide wheel in the REAR, how flush will the wheel be with the wheel lip moulding. What model Mach-E do you have? If you have a GT which has an 8" wheel with a 47.5 offset, going with an 8.5" wheel with a 40mm offset would meant the wheel would stick out .5" more than he OEM wheel which would not be enough to poke out past the wheel lip moulding.

Mark,
Yep you hit the nail on the head as to exactly what I had planned to do. So I don't constantly have to ask you the same question "how far will it stick out", can you show me the formula so I can crunch the number and get it myself please?

On a side note the TSW sebring 20x8.5 wouldn't be a bad fit. I like the look but man do I wish the offset was closer to 47. It would allow me to get it pretty flush with the fender, which ultimately I want. Ascetically I would say its about the most important thing when buying new wheels.

I'll have to keep looking for a wheel that is similar.

I don't actually have a "formula" for figuring out the offsets. I know that an Mach-E Premium with stock 7" wide ET47.5 wheels and 225/55/19 tires has a gap of approximately 1 1/4" (32mm) up front and 1" (26mm) in the rear ± 1/4" (6mm) depending on the camber. The GT's with the 8" wide ET47.5 wheels and 245/45/20 tires have a slightly less gap of about 3/4" (19mm) up front and 1/2" (13mm) in the rear ± 1/4" (6mm).

With that spacing info, I go to this webpage to figure out what the new wheel specs are with different offsets. https://jr-wheels.com/et-calculator
Here are two others that I also use:
https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/
https://www.willtheyfit.com/

Also, that gap we are talking about can vary widely depending on what tire you run. The Michelin Pilot Sport series generally have a very flat sidewall profile and you can gain at least 1/4" more space (less poke) running that type of tire. Also, the gap can vary as I said above do to camber adjustment.

Bottom line though, I usually let Terrance at Signature wheels figure out the offsets for me on my wheels. I tell him what I want which is generally a flush fitment and he designs the wheels for me.

Thank you Mark. When I started this journey I was pretty set I’d be going for custom forged wheels. I thought about this and I just don’t think dropping that kind of money on wheels for a car I might not have for a long time is smart. Custom wheels on cars for sale never fetch more than stock wheels (often less) when sold. The typical mache driver is also not going to pay the premium price for wheels if I were to sell them separately (think 10,000 dollar HRE).

So what I have decided was to go more conservative on the price. I don’t want to spend more than 2800 for new wheels.

Completely agree with you. If you aren't keeping the car for a long while and or you want to get your money back out of custom wheels, that won't happen. It's like anything else you do to the car. Custom Steering wheel $800-$1500, Upholstery $2200-$4500, Stereo upgrades $800-$5000, etc.

Did some digging around on the internet Savini and Vossen are out. Just to many quality issues with finish, casting breaking and bad customer service when issues arise.
