What all the snarky replies don't understand is that, without changing driving habits or experiencing a change in efficiency, the range dropped dramatically. Not a slight difference, not going uphill or driving faster or highway vs city driving, but a serious, sudden change in displayed range with no corresponding change in habits.

My displayed range dropped from an all-time high of 369 km (340 is the posted target range) to 232, which is worse than I have gotten in 2 Quebec winters.

I had gotten well over 5 km/kWh, which is what would be needed to get the baseline 340km range, so it was a shock not only to not get more than 340km range, but to get 100 km less.

This problem also coincided with a planned long trip, in which the Ford pass app had me arriving an hour before I left, after a 3-hour drive.

So yeah, I understand the worry that the computer that controls everything on my car is not just a little off, but entirely untrustworthy.

Ford should say that the latest update may have messed with the GOM and that we should reset our driving history to fix it and get back to "standard deviation".

Last 8 months the range steadily went up from factory reset (of around 235/90% I think) to 290ish/90%, and this morning when I was taking the car out, I got a shock looking at the range, while it said it has reached target setting for charging. Does anyone have any idea what happened here?
I am the only one driving this so far, and yesterday no other button was touched (like factor reset etc) in case you were wondering/ going to suggest that.
Check this site “ https://www.recurrentauto.com/” Found it interesting and it may help your anxiety.

the GOM grinds my gears. I just go by battery % at this point.

I'm just curious - so if nothing's changed with your driving and the GOM numbers changed dramatically, what exactly are you worried about? What do you think is wrong?

two years this has happened a few time where driving history would reset, it always occurred after certain OTA updates. Interestingly, it reset the other nite and last OTA was three weeks ago. I'd plugged it in and stated that when charging completed it would have 241 miles. I get up in the morning do a double take , 200 miles. I didn't really worry, and the easiest way for a quick check is to see how many mi/kwh you're getting as by now most everyone knows it's called a GOM for good reason.

Well, I'm obviously worried that the app and the in-car range estimates are totally unreliable to the point that I'd be flying blind on any trip requiring a charge.

On my recent trip, FordPass and the in-dash navigation said I had to charge for 1 hour despite my destination being within range, with 50 km to spare. Living in a region where public fast charging is few and far between, I'd like to know that I can take my car on a trip and be reasonably certain I can find and make it to charge stops.

This is the biggest range drop in the 2 years that I've had the car. I literally went from my best to my worst range estimates between 2 full charges and the last range estimate is worse than what I get when it's -20C in the winter.

The only explanation I can come up with is that a recent OTA threw things out of whack. I'm wondering if resetting the driving history will fix the problem, like someone suggested, or if it requires a software fix.

That makes sense. I do think that the estimated mi/kWh (or km/kWh since you're in a developed country using correct units ?) is correct though - and I find planning for that works for me 100% of the time. Yes, the car should get it right and we shouldn't need to do math, but I look at the GOM as a rough estimate rather than gospel.

Have you considered just using % state of charge and mi/kWh to make informed decisions?

Update on this - after the last sw update (which stated GOM 'improvements'), the range miraculously went back up to where it was before. I do notice that it now seems to track the distance quite closely. WIll give a point to Ford for this improvement.
For many comments - asking why not look at battery%, I expect Ford SW to address this GOM without me using a look up table for battery% and miles/kWH. Its fairly easy to have this calculation in software.

Knowing all these issues, GOM number and range is like a good motivator for me to drive efficiently as I feel good when the range keeps going up! I am sure there are many people like me ;-)
