I see so many people here say that they were stranded. It can happen either via a PAAK issue or dead fob battery. What's disturbing is that they say their backup code didn't work. As a person who has worked in tech for over 40 years I've heard every excuse possible and find that comment highly suspect. More than likely they forgot the backup code or keyed it in wrong. Remember, your backup code is case sensitive and for some odd reason Ford chose to automatically capitalize the first letter on the keypad when you enter the code.
Moral of the story: Test, test, test your backup code regularly. I test mine once per month and it has never failed. Testing also burns that backup code into the brain so that it won't be forgotten.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE. Make sure it works NOW!
