My car had an unfortunate incident with a concrete pillar in my parking garage. Damn thing jumped out of nowhere. Actually I’m a moron.

Ok, anyway, found a body shop a little outside of town that does (reputably) good work at very good prices. Didn’t even have to file an insurance claim at the price he charged.

And the work he did really was fantastic. The car look like new. And it was seriously effed up on three panels.

Buuuut… I just noticed that the opposite side of the car seems to be covered in an almost invisible chalky residue. I can see the residue on the glass, and I can feel it on the paint.

Maybe that side wasn’t properly masked?

Anyway, I was gonna call the body shop to see if they could maybe buff it off or something, but do you guys have any thoughts before I do?

Oh. And this is what he fixed…

Glad you got it fixed and you were happy with the repair.

Is it possible the chalky residue was there before you had the car repaired and you just didn't notice it? Either way, I would simply point it out to the body shop and ask them if they have a way to remove the chalky residue. Depending on what it is, maybe all you need is a good car wash with a stronger-than-average car soap, such as this one:

Wash the car and then use a clay bar to see if it comes off. That’s the most gentle way of doing it. I took off overspray from paint and windows off that way.
