This is a weird one but as I shifted in reverse I hear a screeching sound (I'm thinking rusty brakes as it has been raining heavily and I didn't drive it for 2 days) but as a I drive I hear a repeated clunk, clunk, clunk sound from the right passenger rear at 15-20mph and ask bystanders if they can see anything (nope). Restarting did not fix the issue. Also weirdly, one side has lower psi by 3psi even though I inflated them to the same psi a few days ago.

I'm thinking some brake issue. Unsure if I should tow or drive it.

Maybe a welded brake pad?

If you have pad material stuck to the rotor, I’d expect the sound to change or even stop when you apply the mechanical brakes.

Another possibility is a bad joint on the half-shaft. There are threads on this, too.

Your comment gave me an idea.

I had some time to accelerate and hard brake without one-pedal (I was only light braking before with one pedal off). The clunking sound did change and finally reduce so maybe it was brake pads. I've now read about others who have experienced this clunking after rain. I experience brake pad squealing all the time in FL but never the clunking. Will drive later for a few miles and see if I need to have the pads inspected.

Thanks!

Switch to neutral to really make sure you're using the friction brakes.

Yep, this is a piece of brake pad stuck to the rotor. Just had mine repaired and Ford denied it as a warranty item since it's wear and tear after 12k miles! Despite issuing 2 TSBs on it, they deny that it's a problem. Sent a complaint to NHTSA, but don't expect anything from it.

When I got the car back, it had a similar noise and took it back to the dealer who discovered that a rock had gotten under the pad and scored the new rotor!!! He said it was the second one he'd seen and could offer no explanation as to how it could happen. In many years/miles of driving I've never heard of either one of these issues before. Anyone else experience the "rock under brake pad" problem?
