Had mine replaced at Safelite earlier this year, no issues with a generic replacement.
They charged me $400 just to "calibrate" the camera, and I asked the guy what exactly that means.
He said they have software from Bosch that works on many manufacturers to calibrate the camera. I think it took them all of 5 minutes to run it.

All-in, it was something like $1100. Dealers around here will not do glass.

Ouch. Expensive calibration. The MME self-calibrates the front camera. All you need to do is drive around a parking lot that has painted lines for a few minutes. ??

I didn't want to risk it. Particularly with the stories about windshield installers carelessly pinching the coax cable from the camera module.
I love my BlueCruise and didn't want to lose it.

Anyone else find the factory windshield is a bit “soft” for the lack of a better term. I bought a year old dealer demo, driven by the wife of one of the owners and it only had 16,000 kms on it. The paint on the front end looks brand new but the windshield is really pitted like my other vehicle with 250k on it. It’s only really noticeable when driving into the sun.

I thought that at first because I took two rock chips within the first ~1-year of ownership.
But, lately has been much better, so I guess I got unlucky for a while. Also, the road you drive on can increase risks.

Something to keep in mind when comparing with an ICE vehicle windshield. Because the MachE has an enclosed front-end (no radiator grill), more air is coming up and over the hood, and possibly increasing the chance of a rock reaching the windshield. This would be true for all EVs, but varying based on front-end design I suppose.

I just wanted to add a note to this conversation. I’m actually having my windshield replaced on my 2007 Mazda CX 7. It only had a very small chip which usually they can use that little tool and fix that no problem but because I had bought a windshield repair kit and put a little bit of resin in there they refused to even go over top of that so it’s a new windshield Hundred dollar deductible. So lesson learned don’t try to fix those little chips yourself. no money out-of-pocket use that chip repair through Safelite.

You could be right. Maybe the finer grit comes up and over the hood and hits the windshield. It’s weird though the paint on the front end wouldn’t be more chipped.

I had a windshield replaced by Safelite with no issue. They used OEM glass and just had to drive the car around for a couple miles to calibrate. Only took a couple hours and no dealer visit required
Me too! Very happy with Safelite

They found some U code during the scan and could not determine what it was for so they told me to take the car to the dealer to see what the code was before I could get a new windshield. Has anyone run into this U code before?
Just had Safelite replace mine. Tech wanted to make sure the aftermarket glass was the same as the factory original. Said it had UV layer in the glass, but the color looked more clear. When I went to pick it up afterwards, I said to him, "Now that it's in the car, it has the same tint". He said "Nope! I didn't like that aftermarket glass so I had a guy go to the warehouse and get you an OEM glass. See, your new one also has the Ford logo above the mirror and cameras". Fantastic service, but also a lesson learned to share with everyone -- insist on OEM glass. I got lucky with the integrity of this guy.

I could select an OEM glass when I made the claim on the insurance app.

Just an update, the U code was related to a TSB update to fix adaptive and cruise control. They couldn't calibrate the system with that error code so I need to bring the car to the dealer to fix the TSB before I can get a new glass.

I'm actually surprised that safelite would replace a mach-e's windshield (considering it's special IR reflective and sound absorbing, etc, etc)
I had a chip fixed at Safelight. I asked about what if I need a windshield replacement, they told me they would have to order it from Ford. Indicating they could install the OEM windshield.
