It’s actually made by a company called “ConnectDER”.
It only available if your utility has approved it. Here’s a link to a list of utilities:
https://connectder.com/order-meter-collars/

Some utilities charge a monthly fee for using it.

There’s a hot debate right now on the Mike Holt electrical forum about how many NEC provisions this violates! Stay tuned.

Saw that earlier. It's cool but I was thinking if someone's panel isn't up to snuff then maybe the service running to it isn't either.

The thing supposedly does some kind of smart load management so the service doesn’t get overloaded.

Did a search and did not see this, so sorry if its a double posting. I thought this was pretty interesting though, that 220 install is always a daunting process for people.
I suspect it will be more daunting and more expensive than a typical install, and would only help those who have used up all the slots on their panel.

If you believe their marketing hype, it averages $500 or so less than a panel change / service upgrade. It’s mainly for people whose existing service can’t handle the added load of an EVSE or solar.
