Lots of good advice here, especially using your gray matter. It's not black and white, there's a lot of gray.

For example, we're headed out tomorrow on a 2-day trip. Do we stay overnight in a hotel with charging, or pick one without charging? Answer - depends on how much different the rates are.

And, what about if you get to a charger and it's full (because you didn't check), or it's not working (despite not showing that)?

The hotel we're staying at has a brand new 2 week old charger, and it's a Clipper Creek "with a round nozzle" per the front desk clerk. I'm arriving, if all goes as planned, with 30% charge, which is enough to get to the next EA charger IF the charger at the hotel is full (we're arriving late at night) or doesn't work.

Plan, plan, and do more planning.
Few hotels in the Northeast or Midwest have level 2 chargers. I plugged in a 120V just to get something. (about 30 miles overnight).

Here are some additional issues we encountered on our 1600 mile adventure:
I'm not sure which app pointed us to a DC charger about 12 miles round trip out of the way. That turned out to be a Chevy dealer with a 25kWh charger. It reported 2+ hours to get to 80%. We charged enough to get to the closest EV America charger.

That charger was on the Ohio Turnpike, but the opposite direction. So we had to go that way, charge, go to the next exit, get off and reenter going the correct way home.

What should have been a 8-9 hour trip with rest and eating stops ended up 12 hours.

My wife wants me to trade the darn think in. She also reports it needs new shocks - she hates the ride.

You need to do more prepwork.

Each charger's specifics can be found in an app, as can their location.

IMO, the only chargers worth using on a trip are the EA chargers, or any other charger capable of going over 100kw. I've read of people using 24kw chargers at Harley dealers, but that is too slow for me.

I agree. We used one in Indiana and that's too slow for long trips. We need more charging stations in the East and Midwest as well as some better battery technology like solid state.
