I have my grill decal in hand, have read the instructions and obtained clarifying information from the vendor. They tell this is a dry install item and is Avery 1105 laminated paper. They recommend starting from the middle and using knifeless tape along the edges. Obviously the pony is an issue in starting from the middle. My plan is to trace the pony and cut that out of the decal in the appropriate middle spot. Apply the knifeless tape along the edges, then dry apply the decal, squeegee out bubbles and cut edges using the tape. Does anyone who has installed this product (or had it installed) have any helpful suggestions or things not to do? I am pretty good with my hands but this will be a first time application for me. I intend to practice with knifeless tape on some decal scraps first. The decal will be applied over PPF. Thanks for any help!

Can you take off the pony

I have not ordered my MME yet, so I throw out advice simply to help. I am not decal expert but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn. :)

Is the Pony attached to the grill by glue or held on by screws?

If this is through bolted, you might be able to remove it from the back. That would free you up to install the decal and then cut holes with a sharp x-acto knife for the Pony emblem to be re-attached. You could trace out the Pony emblem on cardboard (back of a note pad). Determine the location of the pony by measuring the from the top, bottom, and sides of outer edges of the "grill". This way you know that Pony emblem is x and y inches from the edge of the grill and decal. Overlay the cardboard on the decal before applying and cut out for the Pony emblem. That would free you up to install the decal from the center.

If you decide to put the decal on first and then cut, start the cut in the middle of the Pony emblem and cut radially outwards. Work your way out to the edges with each cut. Once all the cuts are made to the edges, of the Pony emblem, you should be able to get the decal flat and your cut would be closer to the edge of the Pony emblem.

If you try to cut the outline with the decal attached, it will be off, since the decal is raised up on Pony emblem. You will need to cut it about 1/8" short, get the decal flat and then trim.

I hope this helps and good luck.

That does help a lot. The pony is removable but does require taking off several plastic panels and removal of the frunk. There is a how to set of directions in the DYI section of this forum.

Do you have a picture of the decal? We are looking for one. The bugs on the front are horrible!

Good luck! @Norwegian_wrapper may be able to help you as I believe he printed and installed his own wrap.

If possible, maybe create a video of your installation process? It would be great help for any others on this forum consider a DIY grille wrap. Just a thought :)

I had PPF put on the front of my car, and the installer (who is mega-experienced and really good) didn't even consider taking off the pony. He just cut around it and it looks fantastic. I would stay away from monkeying around with the logo - way more trouble than it is worth and no reason to do so.

Yea - my PPF installer recommended hand cutting as well. He was fortunate in that the Suntek PPF pattern he printed cut out the pony automatically. I'm just looking for a variety of experienced and input before I take the plunge on Monday.
