i've done some reading about the 4.1.2 and 4.1.3 updates and now i'm confused.

my car has the new UI layout with the small tiles and large app area, and the knob controls the climate, seat heaters, etc. it came this way from the factory.

however, i don't have the camera button in the top ribbon, nor do i have those two new games (bridge battle and parking lot).

i can't see anything in the power-up wiki version list that would describe this state of affairs. it seems like i'm running 4.1.2 but it is somehow incomplete. is this normal?

You don't have ANY Power-Ups yet. You have a 2023 vehicle that's got the software as-installed from the factory.

You do have SYNC, obviously... To see the version of your SYNC software you can go to General > About.

"Power-Up" is what Ford's been calling the over the air updates lately. It's just a way of packaging up updates to vehicle modules and/or configuration and calibration modifications. You'll get them eventually, but it might not be 4.1.3, it just depends on what Ford approves and packages for OTA to your vehicle.

ok, so it must be that there are some released versions of SYNC that never appeared in a power-up. it's true that my version of SYNC is less than what is shown in the wiki for 4.1.2. i just didn't realize ford released versions of SYNC to manufacturing that were not released OTA - i figured it would be easier for them to release the same software into manufacturing as they do OTA for simplicity's sake.

up till today, i was kind of wondering if i should sit on whatever OTA update i eventually get for SYNC, since so many people were complaining about the tiles changing. i found out today from watching scoopman's video that i actually already have the small tiles and the new UI. hence the confusion, since yes, i have never received any OTA update.

The OTA version of the new UI has the camera buttons, 2023s come from factory with new UI, but no camera buttons. Hopefully they will change it for you soon with some form of OTA

Yes, absolutely.

Software is installed at OEMs before stuff even arrives at the factory. It can also be installed in the factory, or via a connected laptop with Ford's technician tools such as FDRS, or via over-the-air.

Each mechanism can have a different release cadence and gating criteria and so far that's proven to be the case all along. (They have never all synced up and probably won't.)

That really needs to change. Version hell exists.

You have Sync version 592, that is what shipped with 2023s. Power Up 4.1.2 installs version 640. You will get that eventually.

It’s important to remember that the numbers associated with power ups are Not version numbers, just reference numbers to that update. Each power up updates certain parts of the car (modules), some update several, some just do one. Some modules can’t even be updated via power up, though most can. No power up updates everything. The only way to update everything is with Ford’s diagnostic software (FDRS). Even then it will only let you update the car with the updates that have been approved for it.
