Just returned from a 5,419 mile trip in the Lightning. 99.9% of fast charging was with Tesla chargers. At one charger, I noticed the following:

I reported it to Tesla as a "missing pin".

Then, as I continued charging on the trip, I noticed that SOME locations had 2 pins, and SOME locations had no pins... And, these weren't V3 vs. V4. So, what's going on?

Weren't V3 or V4??
I'm not sure how you would get routed to anything but V3 and V4.

That's quite a long trip! Glad you found charging despite these damaged plugs/connectors.

"Nozzles" made me laugh just thinking that electrons could be spewing out into the air.

What I meant was, I used many V3 chargers, and I noticed that some had 2 pins and some had no pins.

A good example as to why you should always visually check the charge plug for debris, damage or - in this case - missing pins prior to connecting to your vehicle.

The question is - should there be 2 pins, or no pins?

I noticed this nozzle had 1, so I didn't use it and reported it.

Then, I started looking at the next few and noticed some had 2 pins, and some had no pins...

Did the ones with no pins work?

Is it possible that those pins are AC and the three on the bottom are the DC pins? I don't know enough about the NACS pin layout, just thinking about how our DC pins are the 2 at the bottom, hence having to flip the little door down when fast charging.

The two big pins at the top carry power, either AC or DC. Without those pins, the charger can’t work.

Those are just small guide pins, the receptacle has pins that mate to the outer part of that plug. Here are the pins in the adapter side:
