Topping itself up at midnight?

Check this out. It was -20C all week while I was of in Japan skiing. The MachE was plugged in to an Emporia charger inside an unheated garage. Departure times were all turned off, and the emporia schedule just had its “turn on 45 minutes after sunrise” schedule (so was always offering power).

It seems everyday just before midnight the MachE decided to top itself up. Is this a known schedule?

actually when it was even colder it looks like it was grabbing some energy every six hours.

Added up to 29kw/week. That’s $5/week! Not a lot of money, but I wouldn’t leave my ice car plugged into a block heater while away on vacation. Maybe next time I vacation in winter I’ll unplug the car before getting on the plane.

More importantly, how was the snow? Used to ski there every winter but moved back to the States. Oddly enough, I’m in Tokyo as I write this but no skiing this year. Playing in Tokyo for a few days while the kids are on vacation from school!

This is why some with intelligent chargers set them for the same off-peak hours that the car is set for. Otherwise, you pay to needlessly warm the battery at peak rates.

Snow was mostly great in Hokkaido. Seems to basically snow at least 5cm every day. Some days 20 or 30cm. The problem is it’s often heavy or sticky snow, or mixed with rain. Now I’m back in Banff where it’s terribly thin and terribly cold, but I’m strangely looking forward to dry cold snow even if it’s stupidly thin.

Oh yeah I guess I wouldn’t have to take the drastic move of leaving the car unplugged. I could just turn off the emporia charger using my phone, and then turn it back on when I’m on the plane home at the same time I turn on my furnace to pre-heat the house.

I’ve found that having departure times turned off isn’t enough to keep them from activating , deleting them has stopped the charging. Regular pulses to maintain the HVB temperature are still happening when needed.
