Hi all,

Last night into today the temperature has dipped below 10 degrees Fahrenheit and knowing that I’ll be heading to work early in the morning so I had set my charge up to 85% and preconditioned my vehicle at around the same time that I leave for work, I plug my car to charge last night and I seems as though the car is avoiding the 85% and charging the car to 100% I checked all of the setting on the FordPass app and everything seemed to be normal. So I fully charged my vehicle as is. Has anyone had this issue before?

Secondly, as I was heading to work this morning I did notice that my vehicle was losing mileage every minute or so and that the charge percentage wasn’t decreasing from 100% as I was approaching work it started to decrease to 98%, my job is 15 miles away from home and it is currently 6 degrees outside. Has this happened to anybody?

For your first your first issue I would start fresh with setting the charging limit on the home charger on FordPass.

For your second item in general cold weather/using the eHeat are gonna eat through your charge faster...but with 2% loss in 15 miles that doesn't seem bad and I wouldn't worry about it with a 15 mile commute...enjoy the car.

When others have reported the failure to use charge location settings (including me), it was either due to a recent software OTA update, or the GPS is not correct and the car doesn't recognize that it is home. For me the problem cleared up after changing my Home setting to "Charge when plugged in", doing a charge session, then changing it back to "Use preferred charge settings".

I have seen the display stay "stuck" on 100% for longer than normal, but that is nothing to worry about. It really depends on how much energy the battery management system (BMS) thinks you are using. Based on what I have read about how hard it is to measure the actual charge state, the SoCD is not as precise as a gas gage in your ICE vehicle. Although I have seen those stick on 100% also.

Yes, it has.

About milage loss - GOM was recalculating your range based on your current consumption which was much lower than the previous due to lower temperature.

About battery SOC - it calculates percentage based on possible capacity, and when the battery temperature goes down, so does the capacity. And it can lose capacity faster than losing the power stored in the battery for driving, heating, etc. So there were multiple times when I left the house with 90% and then SOC went up to 93%.

It’s weird because the other day I set the charge limit to 85% and it charged up to 85%.

State of Charge percentage is calculated by pack voltage and pack temperature. When the pack temp is cold the voltage reading to achieve a calculated 100% State of Charge is lower compared to a pack that is at moderate temps.

As you drive your car, the pack can get warmer and when that happens, voltage increases so that is why the display might seem stuck on 100% for a while. This phenomenon is usually only observed in cooler temps.

Think of a beehive on a cold fall morning. Not much activity. Bees are barely moving (low voltage). Later in the day, when things warm up the hive is buzzing, (high voltage). Same amount of bees (energy) but different voltages in the two scenarios due to temperature.

50% Range loss due to cold weather … will never see that spec on Ford Website. That’s unreal … I’m speechless

GPS glitch so it didn't think you were at home charging anymore so that's why it went to 100%.

Miles dropping as you start driving is normal as the temp sensors catch up with the actual outside temp. If you start in a warmer garage you will always see this happen because the range estimate is updated based on the current outdoor temp sensor reading. Nothing is wrong, it's just updating the estimate based on current conditions.

The 50% loss is basically the same for all EV's due to the laws of physics.
