Hi everyone - just taken delivery of my Mach E here in London and saw that the Uk based FordPass forum issuing closed by Ford in 3 days :( So, will the support options mentioned this forum be applicable in the Uk or only in the USA? I'm initially having an update saying that it's "not completed" and have no idea what to do!

If you are referring to an update to your car many times you just need to go out and drive it for the update to complete. At least that is the case here in the US. Sometimes the 12V system gets too low to allow it to finish. I would assume things work the same across the pond but maybe not.

Hmm, ok it was driven for 6 hours yesterday and then parked overnight with slow-charging activated and nothing changed.

Driving, charging HVB, leaving car turned on, turning off don’t alter the 12V charging regime assuming the LVB is OK which it usually is contrary to a whole load of misinformation you’ll read on that subject.

So long as HVB (high voltage battery) is >15% SoC (state of charge) the DC/DC converter will charge the 12V battery.

However, charging 12V battery starts 48 hrs after LVB (low voltage 12V battery) reaches 40% SoC.

If LVB reaches as low as 30% SoC then charging starts immediately.

It should firstly be understood, if you’re checking LVB voltage, that whilst 100% SoC of a lead acid battery is about 13.2V (because each lead acid cell is around 2.2V fully charged and there are 6 cells), 40% SoC is taken to be around 11.95V not 5.2V which mathematically is 40% of 13.2V.

I find car updating is a patience thing.

I don’t get too excited about the arrival of updates and mine come through when they’re good & ready and that will mean when LVB SoC is at a sufficiently high level which is an entirely separate parameter to the LVB charging start rates.

Your signal may assist with updates, either WiFi or mobile ā€˜phone network signal.

For instance, I wired a network node in garage using PoE (power over Ethernet) to feed a wireless network access point (not a network extender which are of questionable benefit) so any updates for the car and my ABB charge point come through lightning quick when car and/or charge point demand them.

I'm certain remote OTA (over the air) updates for the car won’t become unsupported by Ford because this is the way forward for all car makers.

FordPass is the app on your ā€˜phone and I really doubt Ford will stop supporting that in any market their cars are sold.

Attributes differ between markets because, for instance, the UK won’t allow PAAK (phone as a key) due I understand to insurance requirements whereas the US have that supported feature.

Hope all this helps.

I think, in short, the answer is not to become unduly anxious over the state of your 12V battery unless it really does appear to ail which it certainly should not do for a long while, or your car’s OTA updates which will come through when ready.

Enjoy your Mach-e?

Ok thanks for this. My 12v is at 92% and HVB is over 90%. I have auto updates on and still the update that was Not Completed is still not available to re-do.

I’m based in UK too - the same update
failed on my car on the first attempt. Don’t worry - it will retry - and it will go through fine.

BUT…. Don’t be expecting this to happen in a day or so. Sometimes these updates can take a few weeks before they retry. OTA updates are very much a patience thing here in UK & Europe.

…and yes while it’s sad the FordPass Community website is closing down it doesn’t mean you’re not supported any more. The US never had an equivalent and it’s unofficial forums like this one that will keep you on track.

Check out the UK thread on here for region specific help as our RHD models do differ in features from the rest of US and EU.

The car will try again when the stars align in the universe with the Unicorn. ;) Seriously though the car and Ford servers will communicate sometime. I do find it helpful to be parked in an area that has a full 4G signal. (My local Marina cafe):) whereas at home I have nil bars lit up on my phone for 4G so I presume my car receives a weak signal as well. Even though I'm connected to my home Wi-Fi I'm not sure if my car has updated via that. (Wonky Donkey just beat me to the finish line)

Hello Tony

Nice to hear from you. :):)

I didn't know about the FordPass site closing. Typical when it's something useful.

Hiya ?

Even though I'm mostly quiet I’m still lurking

Yes the FPC site will be missed for its details on upcoming OTA’s. Having access to Rob at Ford was a big bonus for us. I got to meet him in person last year and he was such a lovely guy.

Resting you say that about WiFi. I’ve seen some people that say to disconnect from WiFi and others that wear that it’s the only option as it’s much quicker. I can park the car right outside the house and WiFi is stronger than cellular there, so I guess WiFi is my best oprion? I just really want all the software updates especially the one that pre warms the battery as you come to charge station; though I guess that will only work when your use the built in Ford navigation rather than Apple CarPlay?

The jury is well and truly out about whether WiFi actually makes a difference or is actually used for OTA’s - but hey it’s worth trying.

Yes the battery preconditioning only works with the Ford navigation - but point to note - this OTA is a re-issue to catch any older 2021 cars that might not have got the update when they did a dealership update program a couple of years back. If you have a newer car then that software will already be installed on your vehicle making the OTA less of a ā€œmust haveā€ as you ā€œalready haveā€ :)

Yes it’s a 21 car. Dealer said they applied everything but clearly not.

I can check what has been installed for you as I have FDRS (the dealer diagnostic tool for software)

Even if it was previously installed this OTA would come again regardless - so don’t judge them too harshly
