Another car knocked what appeared to be parts of a tailpipe into my line and caused the attached damage. What are the risks with driving a few days with the hole and some duct tape before taking it in. Thoughts, hopes, prayers?

That is your battery casing that is damaged. I would have your dealer assess it before making a decision on whether to drive it for a few days. ??

Oh boy, that is actually major damage that will likely result in replacement of the entire battery pack. It appears the pack is punctured so moisture and water can leak into the pack and cause shorts. You should work with your insurance company immediately on a claim. I'm 100% serious.

Do not drive if it's at all wet.

How is the battery pack that vulnerable? I would have thought that given as that's the most valuable part of the car, it would be protected by something thicker and/or more impact resistant.

There was a previous post showing damage caused by running over a muffler. Low clearance doesn’t help.

It's an issue with many EV's including Tesla. The front of the pack is somewhat protected, but the worst damage happens when something is kicked up by the front lip or another vehicle and the object then wedges itself between the pack and the road. This tries to lift up the vehicle and will result in a punctured pack. In a worst case scenario, cells may short, the pack may enter thermal runaway, start on fire, and burn the car to the ground. Do your best to avoid road debris and recognize the pack is vulnerable to punctures if debris is caught just the right way.

Old Tesla article: https://www.tesla.com/blog/tesla-ad...-shield-and-aluminum-deflector-plates-model-s

The Model 3 does not have the shielding like the more expensive Model S to save costs.

Thank you all for the input. Yeah I put some duct tape on the hole but I’m going to avoid driving it until I can take it into the shop or dealer.
