Hey all, got my 2021 FE back after my HVBJB failure. I noticed these silver bolts on the underside when looking at my car from the side now--can anybody tell me if these bolts have always been visible from the side? Or maybe they were black bolts before? Or maybe I never noticed them... Thanks in advance

Mine have a dark greenish-gray coating on them. 😊🐩 A rattle can of semi-flat paint should make them look similar. 🤪🐩

I knew I wasn't going crazy there... Thank you for confirming--might have to do that to settle the OCD

Are you sure they are not just shiny on the hex heads from having a socket on them?

Looking again, I think you’re right. Looks like the oxide coating was worn off by impact guns. 😊🐩

From watching the John Kelly video they are supposed to replace all those bolts with new ones

New or stripped bolts—either way, I’m taking a can of flat grey or black to them tomorrow

Ooh, yay- wonky contactors AND chineseum-grade stripped out bolts!
I don’t believe the service tech would have installed stripped bolts. The oxide coating is just worn off of the heads. 😎🐩

Not a matter of replacing stripped bolts...some are designed to only be stretched once. They are stretched once and that stretching is what locks them in place. After first install and stretching they no longer have the specified strength.

Yes, correct. I’ve done a few rotations specifying fasteners. 😊🐩 The subject here was the heads (not the shank or threads) of the bolts. Looking at the photo, it appears that the oxide coating is worn. My poorly worded comment was that the bolts were likely not reinstalled if they were stripped in response to a comment that the bolts were stripped And that the finish on the heads of the bolts was worn. 😊🐩

Interesting. Mine (no service yet) look like standard grey bolts.

I will keep this in mind if mine HVBJB ever gets replaced, ensuring they use new bolts, and asking them to make sure they are painted.
