How much have you driven the car in the last couple of days? I would drive the car 20 miles to charge the LVB. When you get home select details and see if you can install it. The LVB charges when you're driving. If you haven't driven much it could be low on charge.

Your 12V battery voltage/SoC is too low to apply the update. Here's my advice:
  1. Change the software update time to the evening when you're not using the car but awake to on the update
  2. Prior to the update time, turn the car on (not accessory mode, actually on) to charge the 12V battery above 80%. Disable auto shutdown timer in settings if you want it to run longer than 30 minutes.

Basically this thing sits all week in garage. I bike to work. I attempted the update after driving about 10miles. Next week I have to go on a longer trip, maybe I’ll try to update after that trip. Thanks

My update time is 1am. I don’t drive the car this late. The latest I return home and park is about 9pm. Does that mean that my low voltage battery is extremely low and updates won’t rage even after I drive the car for a while?

question 2: should I change the low voltage battery on my own and trust the stealership to do it? I am fairly mechanically inclined.

Since you know the update is pending, I suggest initiating the update yourself once you park the car for the night (go into Settings, click on Software Updates, and tell it to start).

Yes, you can charge the battery yourself with a good charger, but I think it's easier to let the car charge from the HVB itself.

Depending on when you purchased your car, it might be time to replace the 12V battery anyway. Three years is about when people start seeing them die, and since you live up north that could make it even more likely.

Initiating the update manually fails. I tried doing that 3 times today, failed everytime.
I won’t bother charging the battery. Like you said…three years is about the life time for them. I wouldn’t want to go through the winter second guessing whether the battery will leave me stranded.
Fair to assume only Ford oem battery is acceptable?

It won't initiate the update because it's low on charge. If you wait too long the update may disappear to show up at a later date. I've never had this issue because I drive on a regular basis. If it isn't important to you just forget it or you can drive your car.

I want my update. Time for new battery.
FYI you could just take your car to your dealer and have them install the 12V recall software (for free), that is a newer version of the powertrain software than 10.2.0 is anyway. You can also have them test your 12V battery to see if it needs replacing or not.

12v recall software? What’s that?
Vehicle software may cause a baby or pet to be entrapped in the vehicle in the event the 12V battery dies. 10.2.0 is pre-recall software. You should have gotten a letter in the mail about it.

And yes, it's also a recall in Canada, the software fix is available for all affected Mach-E's in the USA and Canada.

Oh yes, I did. It’s been a while since I got it. Thanks for reminding me. And this 12v battery recall is not OTA software patch? It has to be done at the dealer?

The software for this recall probably will come out OTA eventually, but since Ford is slow about pushing out updates (especially for older models) it could be a while.
