Hello all,

For some reason when I look on my iPhone Bluetooth screen I no longer see the car’s Bluetooth connection anymore. I do see sync’s Bluetooth, so I know that part is working.

whenever I try to pair my phone for PAAK, it always fails on the pairing screen. Probably because it can’t find the vin Bluetooth!

the following are things I’ve tried.
  • uninstall and reinstall app
  • Turn off and on my phone’s bluetooth
  • Reset the phones network settings (this resets the network and Bluetooth phone settings)
  • Checked my wife’s phone if the vin Bluetooth was showing there (it isn’t)
  • Restart sync
  • Restart car
  • Reset Ford connected phone as a key in general setting
  • Master reset

  • any other ideas?

Looking for the Bluetooth pairing isn't something I've ever needed to do for PaaK. Was your PaaK not working and that's why you began this troubleshooting? Just trying to understand how you got to this point.

Also, I don't think you're going to see a VIN as the bluetooth connection name, unless you manually named it that way yourself.

The vehicle's PaaK connection doesn't present a displayable name to the peers it connects with, such as our phones. So, your phone may just display its universally unique identifier, instead.

On my Android phone, the pairing showed up with a "name" like F8:8A:5E:1C:CD:6D until I renamed it myself.

what started this was that my app was not showing my charging state when it was plugged in. Nothing I was doing would show it. So I decided to reinstall the app, which meant I had to go through the setup again.

on the iPhone, you actually see two Bluetooth connections (when it actually works) one will be Mustang Mach E and the other will be the last five digits of your vin followed by Mach E. Ex) 03827 Mach E

it is the vin one that your PaaK works over.

what I’m talking about is during the PaaK setup there is a screen where it will display six digits and tells you to press the “Copy and continue” button which will then show a connecting modal and eventually you should see a pop up where you can paste your code, but for me it never happens. It just says Pairing failed. Try again.

it was here I looked at my Bluetooth screen and noticed that my vin Bluetooth was no longer showing anymore, so my guess is that the pairing is failing because the Bluetooth is no longer there

Ah, got it. Yeah it definitely doesn't show any part of my VIN on my Android phone. But when I probe Bluetooth with a debugging tool, I do see that the car is advertising an Apple-specific tag (0x004C). So I guess iPhone users get extra data.

Do you have any entries in the hexadecimal pattern similar to my earlier example? Especially anything starting with F8:8A? If so, try to "forget" those connections before your next PaaK pairing attempt.

Other than clearing all of your phone's remembered connections, and likewise removing existing "keys" from within the SYNC interface, I have no other ideas. :(

that’s where I did the “forget network settings” on my iPhone, which should “forget” Bluetooth as well according to apple docs. That’s why I checked my wife’s phone as well (her phone was never setup for PaaK) and she doesn’t see it at all either.

according to my app, it was last updated seven hours ago. So it isn’t even showing what my current battery charge is now in the app (it is 90%) according to the car but the app says 79%

Started trying again this morning. This time I drove to a spot where the cell connection was much better. Once I got there, I got a rush of notifications (which is weird)

it said the master reset was complete. It also said that my Ford connect network was disabled for 48 hours. I tried doing PaaK again and finally it worked.

so it was an interesting experience to see that doing a reset outside of the PaaK reset will disable some services for 48 hours, which isn’t a big deal as I wasn’t planning on using it anytime soon.

Awesome! Happy to hear your got this straightened out.

Maybe the other lesson learned is that the vehicle requires a mobile network connection to finish performing a matter reset, or perhaps during PaaK activation?
