Long wait but it arrived on the very last day of Ford’s ETA! Just a few quick and dirty pics and write up. Picked up our Premium RWD SR last night after it arrived. Dealer prepped it and detailed quickly since I wanted to get it asap. Had a chance to catch the Space White in the morning sun, it’s definitely more cool/gray white in the day, and looks like a solid gray in the dim lighting. Love the color.
Purchase ExperienceL Only 11mi on the odo when it arrived. Deal went OK, but did have to eagle eye the contract since there were a number of things that weren’t right. Dealer wasn’t experienced on X-plan through Investor Relations, and at first said it couldn’t be combined with incentives. Then they overlooked the initial dealer deposit in the prelim numbers. I just had them refund it instead of rolling it into options. If you’re considering Options, definitely check out the spreadsheet that @Macchiazo set up, it was hugely helpful and a big thanks to him for that. Dealers aren’t well versed in it yet and if you don’t know the monthly number you’re looking for it’s easy for something to sneak by you. The sales manager admitted that the MME and Options threw a wrench their way. Scrutinizing the prelim numbers, I saw some accessory package I didn’t ask for get sneaked in... just be armed with the number off the spreadsheet and stick to your guns. Typical dealership stuff is to be expected.
All in all the upfront incentives totaled $4100 - $2.5k Options, ADA, $1.5k California Clean fuel rebate. Was surprised that the $100 rebate did not require commitment to get the ADA when it is available.
First Drive impressions: I test drove the Tesla performance Y and the RWD Y last week just to calibrate myself. I saw the MME before during their roadshow event last fall so had high hopes for the ride and driving quality. I liked how the Model Y accelerated in a straight line but that was about it, everything else was meh with the Tesla. Give me the MME any day. It’s a night and day difference in driver/ride comfort and luxury. The ride is plush, car still handles sporty if so desired, quieter, acceleration is very very good. Looks like Batmobile when looking over the hood, the muscular/angular build of the front end is so fun to look over. The finishes seem a few notches above the Y... definitely the interior is way nicer. Seats are ridiculously comfortable. Pleasantly surprised by the nice stock Michelin tires.
Had some buzzing from the front display, not noticeable when driving but definitely when car is not running. Auto high beams and puddle lights are really fun, also really liked the ambient lighting in the car as well. Frankly I'm glad I test drove the Model Y because there's not one iota of regret sticking with the Mach E order.
Ford gives 100% charge when delivering, that's really thoughtful. I remember picking up my brother's Model 3 and Tesla delivered at 70%, when we asked they said, well you're not supposed to charge it to 100% anyway, but if you want to you can wait three hours to charge it here yourself. It's Tesla country here in the Bay Area, and on the three freeway miles I drove around home I got to leave a MY in the dust. Good times.
Fun notes: Here’s the definitive answer to the Not a Mustang folks... I asked my three year old son what we should name it, after I brought it home. “Dad, I think we should call it Horsie.” There you go, Mustang. I thought the color evoked shark so it might be Horsie Shark for awhile. So... Ford, maybe call it Shark white, not Space white. Like some have pointed out, space is black, plus the star white stars are in space, but sharks, I know that color very well.
He’s been asking about it every day and asked for red stripes like the MME 1400... had to explain it’s not an available option, also I'll need to closely watch his red crayons for the next few months. ?
More photos and stuff to follow as I get behind the wheel a bit more.
