The two leads in the bumper allow access to the frunk only and only work when the 12v battery is dead. They do nothing to gain access to the trunk or the rest of the car.
It turned out to be a disconnect between my phone and the Mach e. Verizon did an update the night before and wiped the connection. I was able to gain access by using my key fob. I went through the process of turning my phone back into a key and all is fine.

I was in the automotive industry for about 30 years and retired from Goodyear in 1999. This is a paradigm shift for me in thinking through these common EV issues. The first clue was hooking up the 12V to the front leads and the front door still not opening. I had already noticed the absence of the click as I approached her, but it didn't scream "security" in my head.

After I sussed it all out, I took the time to be sure that I could open my Mach e without my phone or key fob. Bingo. So now a logic tree is forming in my mind on a set of logical steps to take if/when I can't get her open. I like the idea of not carrying a key fob, so this is sure to happen again.

Speaking of. When you press that button once. Is the rear supposed to auto-open a few inches and stop? Mine seems to be hit or miss but mostly miss when I hit that button. It'll open a little but then you have to press it again for it to resume opening all the way. I'm assuming a defect of some sort with the way it should operate. Once in a while, I can get it to one press open all the way.
I've had better luck when hitting that button very quickly. If you hold the button down a bit too long it seem to only open a few inches.

As an aside... I just traded my phone up today. As soon as I have it all updated, I'll go out and set it up with my Mache eX

They got me doing the can-can behind Machelle, and she just won't open up!

Can I buy the hardware?
don’t worry, I do the can-can with mine everyday and I actually have the hardware. It’s really iffy on where you put your foot but it’ll see a shadow sometimes and open on its own.
