My car arrives in about a month (according to the latest dates from Ford). Switching from my current car (2013 Dodge Dart) to the Mach E will be quite different. I grew up learning to drive a manual transmission (1965 Mustang and a couple 1931 Model A's). When I bought my first vehicle (2007 F150), it was essentially the first automatic that I had. After the F150 I decided I wanted something fun to drive and so in my mind it had to be manual. I almost bought a Ford Focus ST when they came out, but was talked out of it because of the legroom in the back seat (2 growing kids), so I opted for the Dart with a manual transmission. I have loved this car and am going to be sad when I have to sell it or trade it in very soon. I've been thinking about this for a while so here's my list of things I'll miss about this car.
- Shifting - There is just something special to me about driving a manual car
- Sound - The sound of the engine when I'm trying to be a bit speedy
- Stop lights - I like to rev the engine just a little at most stop lights (not anywhere near enough to be annoying to anyone around me, just enough so I can hear the engine). I also like to rock the car a little at lights (just a couple inches) by letting up on the clutch while in gear just when it starts to engage then release it.
Ok, and I guess I'll throw in a few things I won't miss.
- Gas stations - My Dart requires premium gas so I pay upwards of $6.50 a gallon right now. With only a 14 gallon tank that still comes to about $90 each time I fill up.
- Oil changes - What more can I say about this.
- Small trunk - My Dart only hold 13.1 cu feet, and the Mach E is more than double that.
It will be hard for me to give up my stick shift, but I have been looking forward to the Mach E ever since I put the deposit down in September.
Here's a shot of me in my first Mustang.
