So I purchased a 2022 Mustang Mustang Mach-E RWD STD battery. It's supposed to have 70 kWh usable and 247 MI of range. Well at 100% the GOM only displays 191 miles which is actually extremely accurate because I did a full to empty range test and I got 192 miles. Before somebody says it's cold it was 95 today and the last 2 weeks has been 70s and 80s. I have OBD scan tools for the rest of this information, it seems Ford hides 5% at the top and 5% at the bottom which it's not abnormal. Other car companies also have buffers at the top or the bottom. The bone I want to pick is the 70 kWh usable figure. When the car shows 0% and 0 miles the OBD says there's 3.3 kWh still in the battery. So that's basically unusable bottom buffer. That's fine not that strange but when I charge the car up to 100% it shows 69.28. so that would mean subtract 3.3 from 69.2 that = 65.9 usable? Am I missing something here or do I have a legitimate concern? Maybe one of my modules is damaged? The OBD reader does say my battery state of health is 100% I would just like some other opinions on this maybe someone from Ford.

I believe this PID label is "Estimated kWh to Empty".
So, 69.28 kWh usable.

The 70kwh is what is usable; the 5% buffer at the top and 5% at the bottom put it at 77kwh.

There are more threads about why the Guess-o-meter is off than I care to mention. look around and you'll find them. Tons of people think they got the wrong battery, too

But when I got to zero it still showed 3kwh was left over. So that would mean I only had access to 66 instead of 70?

Then it’s too hot, or you drove too fast, or you had the a/c running.

You got 69.28 out of 70 and aren’t happy?

Or are you complaining about the 3 at the bottom? You couldn’t use the last gallon of gas in your ICE vehicle either.

Yup, because it’s 95 degrees like you said. Batteries don’t like the heat either.

And range? How fast were you driving and did you run the a/c?

Your car isn’t broken. And it’s not really a mystery. But you seem to be acting like it’s a mystery by only giving partial info.

What speed did you drive? 247 is estimated average combined city and highway. Highway will be lower. And it can also be lower if you do a lot of hard accelerations (like stop and go but really GO.)

What was your reported efficiency for your 192 mile trip?

What is your overall efficiency?

There are 2 PIDS: 1 that shows the actual physical battery and the other that shows what it will let you get at - the "accessible".

Just like the gas gauge in an ICE, they "hide" some of the accessible buffer on the display so you can go a little bit past "empty". It's about 5 to 10 miles' worth.

70 mph continuously until I got to zero. I was literally just driving to test the range so I was real careful to only do exactly 70. Except where I had to do u-turns I was doing big loops on the highway
