How is this any different from a ICE running out of gas?

It would potentially take longer to run out of range in an EV. I only filled my gas tank on my last ICE car once a week or so, and my Mach-E is almost always charged up to 90% every night (unless there's a power outage). So more often than not, it would be a longer police chase after my EV. ?
I suspect the ability to remotely see state of charge and thus range on an app made the difference here. Not sure if gas cars report to an app how full the tank is these days (my old one didn't, but it was old.)

Aren't EV's in efficient as heck over 85 mph? If they took my wife's vehicle they wouldn't make it far as every time I get in it it says under a quarter tank. Mach E plugs in every night and charges to 90 percent. If 8 am it is all conditioned during the cold months also

I'm really surprised auto manufacturers don't have a way of shutting the car down remotely. They know everything about the car, can remotely lock, unlock, open windows and start. Ford has even filed patents for car systems that allow the car to repossess itself back to a dealership.

There has to be a way cops can give the manufacturer the location of the car and have it shutdown....or at least a limp home mode.
Especially when the owner is monitoring it on an app.

My wife's explorer reports gas tank level, tire pressure, oil change, mileage, etc... to the Ford app right along with my MachE

Liability. I can see this being raised in a boardroom at Ford. The first question would be: "and this would benefit us, how?"

Also, keep in mind, we are not Ford customers--the dealerships are. We are customers of the dealerships.

All vehicles are inefficient as heck over 85 mph.its just way more visible in an EV because they are so efficient normally.

Tesla HQ can but I doubt they do because of liability reasons. Rivian could also.
