Bingo bango.
Bob's your uncle.

Thanks!

It actually wasn't lit at all.
It was in no position.
Back to auto you go !
I’ve noticed this issue as well. Seems like a bug with whatever module controls that panel. Half the time the car wakes up from a deep sleep it doesn’t turn on the headlight switch panel.

I’ve never had it happened when the car is sitting for less than a day

I can’t see the video on iPhone either so I’m not exactly sure what we are talking about, but, I’ve had my GTPE auto switch from headlights in “auto” to “on” a few times now when I turn the car off. Very annoying when someone will tell me I left my lights on and I never touched the switch. Then I have to walk back out to the car to turn the switch back to auto. The last time it happened I actually paid attention and heard the warning beeps getting out of the car so I was able to switch it back. I never take my car out of “auto” or touch this dial so I had no idea what the warning sound meant or even sounded like until a few days ago when it happens again.

Yes, I've had this before to discover that the headlights are switched in the On position (not Auto). It's weird because I keep the headlights set to Auto all the time.

I think there's a bug in the system that sometimes switches the headlights to the On position. I don't know how to reproduce this (non-deterministic in software geek-speak), but it happens once every week or two for me.

Does anybody else experience this?

Yup. Super common. Even happened the first day I had the car.

Technically though, they don’t switch to “on,” the switch switches to nothing even though the lights are on. But nothing on the light switch or anything near the switch is lit up.

Looks like this:

Then you turn the switch and looks like this:

You’re right. This is what happens and it’s super annoying. I can tell that when I walk away, the headlights are on full blast. It also seems like and unnecessary drain of battery power.

There is an audible dinging sound when you open your door (same sound it makes when you leave your lights on), so that should alert you to it.

Reminds me of the sound old cars made when you opened the door with the keys in the ignition.

The real question is why though? What triggers “loss of memory” on this setting? And would it be indicative of other related bugs?

Since I’m a software guy I’d be interested in seeing the bug report and root cause analysis on this.

It seems like the module or that panel goes to sleep and doesn't wake back up properly. It is completely off when it happens. And It seems like the car fails back to lights "ON" when that happens. Just turning the knob at all wakes it up and things go back to normal.

So far, I haven't found anything that triggers it. It seems to just be random. Sometimes It happens every day, and then sometimes I can go weeks without it happening.

I never had the issue on the First Edition I had for 8 months, but have it regularly on the GT.

At least nobody blamed the Ford's IT team for the video iPhone problem...

It is highly variable between vehicles. It only happened one time to my car and that was months ago. It has been fine ever since. 🤷‍♂️
