Unfortunately my 2-month-old MME was hit by a rock on free way and left with a chip and a long crack on the glass. I assume it needs to be replaced. My insurance by default uses Safelite. They seem to have a good review in my area, but do you have better places to recommend?

My insurance said using OEM glass without the Ford logo might be faster, but other than the logo, is the glass the same as Ford's genuine part?

Thanks!

In my opinion, the aftermarket glass is not as good as the OEM and it is not the same. There is a reason why it is cheaper, it is cheap. I would wait for the OEM, which is what I am doing on my Lincoln door window (damn thieves).

If you are looking for a quality shop that just does glass try Autoglass Masters in San Jose. He replaced my front windscreen on my Lincoln a year or two back and it was a first class installation. Bill has been doing it for 24 years! Be patient, since he is usually busy and in demand.

You are correct that insurance does not like paying for OEM but you can elect to pay for the difference yourself. Insurance companies like aftermarket parts since it keeps the cost down. I am always ok if the part is the exact same quality and just made by someone else.

I would also not go with the companies that drive to your work and install it while you wait. Find someone who has been doing it for a few decades and knows what they are doing, verus someone who took an on-line 2 to 4 hour class on how to install windscreens. You do get what you pay for! I am picky and want quality. Pay for it once and move on. Others may disagree, since we all have our opinions and experiences.

I don’t disagree, but think there is value in the car staying put for a couple days and in ideal temp conditions for the adhesive to cure properly. It’s the single most important aspect of getting your windshield replaced.

I had Safelite replace a windshield for me on a different vehicle, and the guy was great. But I also supervised his ass for the duration, wouldn’t leave his side and was taking pictures the whole time (then gave him a very good tip to balance things out).

If I were you, I would not accept an aftermarket windshield on a $60k car under any circumstances. In my case, Acura had some warning about using non-OEM and I took full advantage of that. Worth checking out if ford has something similar.

Thanks! I need a new windshield put in my Shelby. It's starting to get some "sparkle" as my dad calls it.
If you look at his website you will see some nice cars that he has done. When I was in there, someone had chopped the top and he was putting in custom glass on the front and back.
