I seemed to have joined the club of people who need their windshield replaced. I have already repaired a chip on this windshield and the car is only 2 months old. Driving to the airport last week, we incurred a chip and now its a crack across so it will need to be replaced. Does anyone know what the cost of the OEM windshield is? I am wondering if I just pay my $500 deductible through USAA and go that route. I assume this glass is probably upwards of $800 or more, but figured I'd ask before moving forward. Seems the glass on this vehicle is really delicate. I worry I'll be on the replacement train a lot, Colorado uses gravel instead of salt, etc on the roads in the winter.?

Not sure what the price is, but you can bet your donkey it'll be expensive. The windshield is acoustic glass.

Also you need to have the windshield mounted hardware/sensors recalibrated when a new windshield is installed. Personally I would prefer the dealer to do it with the proper tools/computers since the MME relies on them for BlueCruise.

For the future, when you notice a chip, fill it with resin ASAP. You can order the repair kits on Amazon or even local stores sell them.

Insurance companies often repair cracks for free.

I recall seeing well over $1,000 for a new one.

I didn't have a chance to fill this one unfortunately, it was right on the edge of the glass. There was no way to save it, it cracked within minutes of the chip. I don't have Blue Cruise on mine (I know, I'm the minority lol), but will still need to recalibrate for intelligent cruise. I'll probably just go with USAA for repair and request OEM glass and then will have to schedule recalibrate at the dealership.

That's what I figured, thanks for the info. I have to pay my deductible, but $500 is better than $1000 or more.

You may want to look into modifying your glass coverage. The cost of the windshield is high, but the glass roof is even higher. My glass deductible is zero, a claim doesn't impact my rates, and I pay $72 for it.

I don't have the glass roof because where I live we frequently have hail etc and I didn't want to deal with replacing that. But you are right, I will probably look into modifying my coverage for the windshield as it looks like this is an issue.

Reputable glass shops handle the calibration, too.

Ask USAA about the premium on full glass coverage, meaning glass replacement is covered with a $0 deductible. When I checked with Pregressive, the full coverage premium for 6 months was $47.

I just had a similar windshield replaced. OEM ford glass on an expedition, it's the same acoustic glass but also is heated by the wipers. Safelite out of pocket was going to be $1600, going through insurance they had negotiated discounted rates and it was $1000 out the door. So ironically I had to process a claim to get the price down to $1000 and then pay for it all because of my $1000 deductible.

This included the recalibration of the camera's etc.

Also, i know safelite's are hit and miss, this newly installed windshield by them has a better fit and finish than the factory installed one.

The Ford dealerships here use a third party. The guy they had call me

Our Ford dealership uses a third party and the guy they had call me seemed a little sketchy. He initially quoted me $392 or $591 if I wanted OEM Ford glass. After I told him I had full glass coverage on my insurance, he told me it was actually $592 for aftermarket and $791 for OEM because he didn't account for recalibration of the camera.
I did double check with my auto insurance though, and because I have full glass coverage there is no deductible.

I live in MN and have $0 deductible glass coverage as part of comprehensive insurance as well.

We bought our 1st Jeep Wrangler last year and have had to replace it 3 times because the windshield stands upright. I've been with State Farm for 23 years and just got a notice they are dropping my comprehensive due to excessive glass claims after the most recent replacement. They told me they can offer a high deductible coverage but will not include glass coverage for me in the future and are dropping the coverage on ALL of my vehicles.

Moral of the story - just because you have glass coverage doesn't mean you can claim it too much I guess.

I'd suggest you investigate other companies. Companies like USAA, AMICA, and Erie Insurance rank higher.

Had a Wrangler before this, so I feel your pain, I lucked out with just chips on that windshield, but yes it was very prone to damage. Unfortunately USAA's policy is if the windshield needs to be replaced, you owe the deductible. Windshield repairs are $0. Off to make a claim I go... *Sigh*
