OK, I realize that it’s an AWD vehicle and I’VW got over thirty years of driving in Alaska under my belt. Driving in real winter conditions is something I know how to do! Currently I live in the PNW where generally we have rainy wet conditions. We’ve only owned our MME for a couple of months so I’m not really excited about putting a set of studded winter tires on it quite yet. Has any one tried putting chains on a MME yet, maybe not the heavy chains with lugs, but the cable or synthetic strap type? I realize that chaining this thing up may be a little sacreligous in the MME world, but what the hell it’s advertised as an SUV! I live on the water but I can see the mountains from the house. We’re still fairly active skiers so we keep our old Volvo XC70 as our foul weather vehicle.

Most Canadians do fine with non studded winter tires. No problems for me so far with Conti Viking Contact

I drove yesterday in the snow, the CrossClimate2 tires did well. I did slide a bit a couple of places, but quickly gained control just by easing off the accelerator. One place the road dipped a bit on the side and the back started to slide in that direction, I just turned the wheel that way and eased up, it straightened out quickly. My past experience with studded tires brought me to the conclusion that they are more trouble and expense than they are worth having unless you do a lot of driving on icy roads. Just drive the Volvo for a few days if it has better tires and AWD, problem solved.

Taking advantage of our PNW Arctic.. chill, I noticed some interesting things. Whisper mode a bit more lenient on not overpowering traction. One Pedal can cause sliding if you’re aggressive with it, the narrow tires & traction control & braking are very good and the weight probably plays into this as does the 50:50 F-R weight balance. All in all, a pretty decent winter driver. I’d take it any day over my 90’s 5.0 with steam rollers. That was a damned beast to drive in the snow & ice. My buddy won’t take me up on racing for pinks with his ‘22 5.0.

I have Michelin X-ice tires and have been driving to Whistler regularly, and in some fairly bad weather recently. The MME is fine with good winter tires. You don’t need chains or studs.

My pic is my Mach e in my driveway at Schweitzer, the car is awesome in the snow, certainly does not need studs. I cant imagine why it would need chains, the car is balanced and solid. I have been clumping around the mountain for a week and we have had about 5' of snow. I got some tires that were made from a company that starts with letter V, they work fine on factory wheel. My wifes Macan turbo is awesome in snow with Blizzaks, this is better. and its the PE, so its lower.
