I got my 2022 GTPE in August and just crossed 5000 miles. I live in Detroit and thought I would add my thoughts on the winter driving experience.

1. The Bad: winter range anxiety
-As others have pointed out, I'm disappointed on the winter range. On 12/25, I took a trip from home to the airport, to work and back home. The round trip was 105 miles. I started at 80% charge and 137 miles estimated range and by the time I reached home, I had 9% and 12 miles range left. I should note that I'm driving on winter tires (more on that below) and made no effort to reduce power (heat on full blast, both front seat heaters on and steering heat). I like the cabin nice and warm when I'm driving in the cold and have no interest in being cold to increase range while driving. Either way, a trip to the airport, work and back home in the same city should be something an EV should accomplish easily in order to gain mass acceptance.

2. The Good: excellent winter handing
-As expected, the winter driving/handling is excellent. I have to go to work regardless of the weather so I need a car that can handle any condition, and the Mach-E did not disappoint. In fact, it was better than my Audi quattro with winter tires, which was also excellent. The electric all-wheel drive system seems to be the future, it seems to always know where to send power to increase grip. And the heavy, low center of gravity car always seems planted and confident. Also, I have Blizzak LM001 tires, which are excellent as well. Range did go down, but it was difficult to tell how much was due to the tires and how much due to the cold weather. The Blizzak's were a considerable improvement over the stock summer Pirelli's the car came with, which were loud and stiff. The Blizzak's are much much quitter and smoother.

I’d crank it up to 90% which would help the anxiety. Won’t hurt the car.

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska, and have for over 30 years. The Mach E is the best handling winter car I have ever driven. Period.

I have had Subarus, Fords, Hondas, an Isuzu... cars, trucks, SUVs, you name it. About the only thing the Mach E doesn't do better than anything else is handle deep (6"+) snow better than my F-350. The combo of a low center of gravity, relatively heavy weight, all wheel drive and the innate traction control advantages multiple motors have over a single drivetrain... Driving this thing on snow and ice is actually fun.

I have been charging to 100% every night. It prepares me for the unexpected, and helps with the winter range loss.
