Winter Wheels?

For those living in cold climates, just wondering what winter setups you’re running? I’m considering picking up some 18” BBS wheels with 225/60R18 Sottozero tires. Tire Rack will mount and balance them, and install TPMS sensors too. They arrive ready to use. Always had a good experience with them.

Wondering if people have a dedicated set of winter wheels or whether they swap out tires on a single set of rims they use year round.

I put nice rims on the OEM tires for Summer (no range or performance loss) and have snows mounted on my Ford OEMs. The finish on OEM wheels seems to hold up to salt better than the aftermarket.

I think it’s easier to manage swap outs and not have tires rebalanced and mounted over and over. Also you can keep your summer wheels pristine. This whole setup cost me $1350 installed.

I cannot wait to test them out on lots of snow and Ice.

I ordered the following from Tire Rack today:

Don't know much about MSW as a wheel brand, but a brief Google search yielded positive results. I like the simple OEM look they have. This is my wife's daily.

Went down to 18" from the OEM 19" size, as winter roads tend to be rougher. That extra sidewall helps to cushion the ride. At $190/wheel, you can't go wrong. Tire Rack will mount and balance the tires, and install TPMS sensors too. I went with Pirelli Sottozero 3s in 225/60R18 size.

I used MSW wheels for 3 winters on my wife's Pacifica (before trading it for a RAV4 Prime). My only disappointment with them was that the machined sections didn't stand up to road salt very well at all. They were pretty corroded and looked horrible after 3 years.

Thanks for that feedback. A worthy point indeed. Truth be told, she'll curb these long before the winter corrosion gets to them. Looks to me like an extra 2 layers of clearcoat would have been helpful. But, you get what you pay for. $180/wheel is about as cheap as it gets, so I'm having realistic expectations. Thanks for sharing.
