Which ice vehicle functions like 92% new at 250k miles? I’ve never driven an ice that had 250, but even at 90, it drove like absolute garbage.

For the most part Steve I agree with you. However, my 2007 F-150 King Ranch that I sold in 2021 had 282K miles and I would say it was 80% like new. Interior and exterior were in perfect condition. Mechanically was the 80% but it drove and rode great without one rattle inside. Really miss it.

Thanks, Mark. But let’s face it: your ability to maintain a vehicle is unrivaled!! You are in the top minute fraction of 1% and most people (myself included) would not be able to understand and react to auto issues like you can. If everyone had the knowledge of the experts on this forum, cars would last much longer and would drive infinitely better. I’d argue that automakers would also go bankrupt.

It's all about the maintenance. I had a 2005 Mazda 3 that had 248,000+ miles on it when I traded it in. Still had the original clutch and the brake pads were only replaced once because I mastered rev matching in that car. When I eventually traded it in, the salesman originally offered $500 for the trade... the bare minimum. I insisted it was worth more and that he should drive it to confirm. He was so impressed by how well it drove and how clean the interior was that he bumped the offer up to 3K. I later saw him driving around town in it. Found out he bought it from the dealership that same day. That was the first car I ever bought that I actually wanted. I took care of it and it took care of me.

I'm at 48k miles, almost never fastcharge, tend to keep between 20-90% charge level, and my total capacity is around 94% and battery health of 91.5%

That's really impressive! My most recent experience with a Tesla was not as great. About a quarter of the miles, and just barely 80% battery. That 20% loss is pretty significant on road trips, glad to hear the MME is a lot better in that regard.

Huh, and my HVB SOH after 32k miles is 94%. I guess it's not linear!

My 2022 MME AWD Premium ER is exactly 3 years old, just over 47k miles, and Car Scanner shows 91.5% SOH. I rarely fast charge, and almost always keep it between about 20 and 85%. I'm also in New England and put a lot of miles on in the winter, with occasional overnights around 0 degrees F when I can't leave it plugged in. These are things that may or may not contribute to degradation, but just another data point for those interested. It's beginning to seem like age is the dominant factor in degradation.

It’s age, not mileage folks. Age. Use it or lose it.

Where do you see the capacity and health numbers?

The vehicle I sold after acquiring my MME was a 2001 Toyota Tacoma S-Runner with 285,000 miles on it. Aside from the paint, which was dull and ugly, that thing was still in great shape and ran like a Swiss watch. I don't plan on ever going back to ICE, and Toyota's BEV offerings have not impressed. But they really knew their ICE engines and vehicles.

I didn't even do a lot of the routine maintenance on that thing, and it just kept going anyway. I bought it used at 50,000 miles and mistreated it for the next 150,000. I really only treated it well AFTER it passed 200k. Didn't even replace the timing belt until 250k, and that was supposed to be done at 90k.

Sold it to a guy who was going to take it down to Mexico and put it to work on a farm. It'll probably pass half a million miles before giving them any real trouble.

I hope my MME does as well as this guy's, and I probably won't even put a tenth as many miles on it in the same time.

So there will always be success stories. But these anecdotes don't scale. Statistically speaking, ice gets scrapped at 200k in the US and 150k in Europe.

I would wager that EVs will last, on average, much longer.
