BlueCruise finally became available in my car last week, the day before I had to drop it off for the recalls, so I didn’t have much of a chance to play with it. I have now, so here are my quick observations:
  • It does exactly what I expected. When I’m an area where hands-free driving is supported, it seamlessly transitions from adaptive cruise control to BlueCruise. No muss, no fuss
  • It is challenged sometimes when driving west in the late afternoon - when the sun is a bit low in the sky. It gives up and reverts to “hands on”. Not surprising - I assume the sun is “dazzling” the camera.
  • It did a pretty good job when I was driving at night, in the rain. It only gave up a couple of times.
  • I’m not too comfortable with how it approaches traffic that slows down/stops. It seems like it waits to long to react (and I have the following gap set to the max - 4 bars).
  • I didn’t find the so-called “eye nanny” objectionable. It called me out a couple of times but it wasn’t annoying.
  • the system should make a more prominent alert if it needs you to resume hands-on driving. Maybe a distinctive chime, or flashing the screen or something. I’m not looking at the instrument panel all the time - I’m looking at the road and the surrounding environment
Overall, I’m very pleased. The next “acid test” will be the next time I have to drive into the office. ?

Nice review. I generally agree. One thing that bothers me is it seems to hug the right side of the lane. When I‘m in the left lane and pass a car in the center lane it appears to be closer to that car than I’m used to. It might be just me. Perhaps when I manually drive I hug the left side of the lane. The car is probably centered in the lane better than I can do. I thought I read somewhere if you’re hugging the left side of the lane when you engage it, it will continue to favor that side of the lane. Not sure though.

I don’t think any of these three things really have anything to do with BC? Tough to say because Ford seems to keep changing what the name “BlueCruise” means.

Pretty sure the second does - I’m specifically talking about when hands-free engages or not. Same argument for the first one - I was again speaking specifically about hands-free engagement.

Being Easter Sunday and light traffic, went for a ride to test Blue Cruise. First thing I noticed lane centering gravitates to the left. Handled beautifully on level roads. Heading down a local parkway towards the ocean I crossed a bridge over the bay. At center span the road rose up at a fair angle. When I hit the apex the vehicle pulled sharply to the right. No warning to take control. I guess the camera lost sight of the lanes? Luckily no one next to me me. Asked me several times to take control going around moderate curves. I will continue to use Blue Cruise but will be more vigilant on bridges.

That should be the exact same behavior as it had before getting BlueCruise, i.e. Adaptive Cruise with Stop & Go.

Agreed. And I am not too comfortable with that either. It may just be me.

I’ve got used to it, though I hover my foot over the brake just in case. I had some butt pucker moments when I first started using it.

Just to be clear, they are one and the same. There is no "either". The following distance is Adaptive Cruise, has zero to do with hands free.

I think some people use it improperly. For me, following distance is meant to be FOLLOWING, i.e. the vehicle in front of me is nearby, and on the highway. In stop and go driving, if there is no car in front of you, and then you come up on stopped traffic, it's going to quickly slow down, much later than a human being would. Multiple posts in the last few days. Either tap the brake to disengage and slow down, or use the "-" to slow your speed.

Yes, I realize that. As I said previously, I wasn’t comfortable with the way adaptive cruise control handled approaching slowed or stopped traffic. The behavior is identical with BlueCruise, so I have the same discomfort. My point was to comment specifically on BlueCruise.

Does the F-150 BC use the eye nanny as well? I’m trying to see photos but doesn’t look like it has the same light bar on the steering wheel.

Generally a good experience with BlueCruise so far (about a week and a half). A couple of times the car misread the speed limit sign and either accelerated or slowed down suddenly.

Yes, but it's located in the door pillar.

Thank you, was trying to figure out if my brother in law should be looking out for an update on his, but seems his trim doesn’t have this, so looks like No
