JuiceBox (Enel X Way USA, LLC) shuts down business in North America

I just received the following email:



Dear Enel X Way USA, LLC Stakeholder,

After careful consideration, Enel X Way North America has decided to close its electric mobility business in the US and Canada, operated by the local subsidiary of Enel X Way USA, effective October 11, 2024. An experienced third-party firm will be appointed to manage the company’s affairs and ensure that the closure is handled with the utmost care and professionalism. The appointed firm will be responsible for managing the remaining obligations and communicating directly with customers and partners regarding the closure.

This decision is in line with the Enel Group’s strategic approach to e-mobility that pursues further growth by providing bundled offers, including private charging solutions, to its electricity customers as well as by developing public charging infrastructure in countries where it has an electricity retail business. By contrast, Enel North America has no retail electricity customer base and was active in the e-mobility segment only through the sale of charging hardware and software.

A little frustrated by this, as JuiceBox had a good system, then Enel X messed it all up, now they are pulling out of the US leaving me essentially with a "dumb" charger.

I suspect this will kill the integration with PSEG-NJ off-peak charging credit program.

That was my first thought too, only the respect to NYSEG’s program for Hudson Valley counties in NY. I bought this charger through an offering via that utility. Hope the class action lawsuits are already being drafted.

You beat me to it by 2 minutes. I just got the same email.

This is such a shitty way to leave the business. Lots of commercial chargers are bricked because of this (no way to turn them on without the backend). We need to find a way to deal with dead chargers left behind by these companies (Tritium being the other large business that's dead).

I wonder what all “software discontinued” means. I can’t change settings on my charger or no more updates. ?‍

Older versions of Juicebox were already persona-non-grata as Nikki went into over at Transport Evolved.


Appears to me they were already in a low-investment mode, and did not have the potential of tens of thousands of new EV’s to charge anymore.

There is also fierce competition. The Emporia is UL listed and up to 11kw with lots of conditional charging options around solar, for one example.

Is there an answer to my question somewhere in this?

Sure would be nice if they'd open up the hardware now. They ruined the previous juice net app and I used to have some cool stats in Home Assistant with the old way but the new Enel x app broke all that.

I am changing my settings to 40 amp from 32 right now just in case it goes blank
