Did very well through an insane commute from Hillsboro to the west hills of Portland, OR. Lots of people driving into each other and off the road, never felt out of control. This was after coming back to the car an hour after parking it. Stock tires with 16k miles, AWD.

We've received about 70-80 inches of snow here in the past month and a half...

I really wonder how the stock GTPEs Pirellis will perform in the cold.
That is an interesting question. I have read they would crack, etc in cold weather. I have stock tires on my GT and considered moving to snow tires but they have performed well so far this winter.

Aren’t those “summer performance” tires? My understanding is that Summer Performance tires in general are made with a different compound that doesn’t do well with cold temperatures (it gets stiff or brittle or something I was told).

NH has not been dumped on that much. At least not in the southeastern part of the state where I am. Still plenty of sleet and slide. My AWD Premium with stock Primacy's in whisper felt very sure footed changing lanes at between 60 and 70 mph. No slippage moving from a dead stop either. The car has a RWD bias yes?

They wouldn't, it comes with summer-only tires.
I am aware. It generally doesn’t get cold in the Bay Area, but the idea that summer tires don’t function at all when it’s cold can’t be true. It’s just not advisable.

Just bizarre weather. Here in Northeast PA just north of Philly, it's now been 15 months without anything but a dusting of snow. Now that we're soon into March we'll likely be 24 months by the time next winter rolls around.

Being one who grew up on frozen ponds, I'm jealous of all the snow.

You are correct cold temperatures noticeably reduce traction but you can drive. They will perform like completely bald tires in a torrential downpour. The compound will be hard and the tires may feel extremely stiff or even you may feel flat spots for the first few miles you drive. Somewhere like the bay area where it's rare to get cold temps be extra careful and you should be OK. Now if you add wintery conditions like snow and ice they are dangerous.

Heh....
The Premium AWD with some studded tires is a beast up here in Northern Canada.
Stretches of -45C and all my roads have 2-3.5m snowbanks along the side.
Second winter, and this car is unstoppable

Can someone then explain to me why in Canada the only GT option is the Performance with it's summer only tires? It just seems a bizarre choice for Ford.

They probably figure someone who is going to buy a GTPE that lives in the snow belt will go and buy a 2nd set of wheels and tires for the winter.

That's what I do.

Gonna go snow blow again, I think the forecast says 25 additional inches of snow today

Anyone that doesn't have a an actual set of winter tires for any vehicle is only asking for trouble
