Yes, Ford needs more than three EVs. Yes, Ford needs to vastly improve its hardware/software capabilities. Yes, Ford needs to span the price range (although a sub 40k MME ain’t bad). And Yes, cheap gas (often goes with economic slowdown) and an incentive imbalance towards fossil fuels will hurt EV sales.

When there’s volatility, you have to zoom out to see trends.

You can zoom out by vehicle type to notice it’s slowing down and getting more expensive for all vehicle types (granted, EVs hit hardest by the pull-ahead).

“The new-vehicle sales pace had been expected to slow in the fourth quarter, and that’s what we are seeing,” said Cox Automotive Senior Economist Charlie Chesbrough. “The headwinds from higher prices and fewer government subsidies for electric vehicles are finally slowing the market after a surprisingly strong previous six months. Sales began surging in the spring as buyers rushed to market to beat expected higher prices in the wake of announced tariffs. Now, with more tariffed products replacing existing non-tariffed inventory, prices are drifting higher, leading to slower sales which may last through the remainder of the year and into next year.”

Or you can zoom out by market to see that all markets outside the US, EU, and China grew EV sales by 40% last year, now equal to the US.

As to be expected. Many people pulled forward EV purchases before the tax credit expired. We’ll see an abnormal dip for a few months but things should even out probably by Q2 2026 and we’ll get a better picture of the EV market.

Plus the whole Ford aluminum plant fire issue that caused them to cut production of the Lightning.

Better for the resale value of our cars, though! Not that it matters to me because I’m keeping my First Ed for another 3-4 years at least.

Nothing fake about the MME. I would have bought if Ford named it 'Plasma' or something else. I'm not mad. Maybe a bit defensive because none of us named the vehicle.

I was joking. I've said many times that I bought my (two) Mach-Es despite being a Mustang. But truth be told, the vehicle wouldn't look as good if it weren't for 60 years of design heritage to pull from. I think that the Mach-E is still the most handsome EV on the market, bar none and not by a little bit.

I bought a ‘25 Select SR in October and love it! Part of the problem Ford has is selling cars through a dealer network that despises EVs. I’m convinced every EV they have sold was to a customer that educated themselves. A dealer has no trouble educating customers on 5.0l vs Ecoboost but they couldn’t tell you the benefit of one pedal driving. Or how charging at home is significantly cheaper than public charging.
