You didn’t find it in the manual (which is very thorough BTW) because seatbelt warnings at startup is a federal regulation in the US. So you can’t disable it in any vehicle in the US. BTW, this extends to all passenger seats (front and rear) starting in MY 2027. You can disable the reminder alarm, but not the initial startup alert. (see “SWITCHING THE SEATBELT REMINDER ON AND OFF” in the manual).

USDOT Standard No. 208 - Paragraph 7.3:

S7.3 (a) A seat belt assembly provided at the driver's seating position shall be equipped with a warning system that, at the option of the manufacturer, either—
(1) Activates a continuous or intermittent audible signal for a period of not less than 4 seconds and not more than 8 seconds and that activates a continuous or flashing warning light visible to the driver displaying the identifying symbol for the seat belt telltale shown in Table 2 of FMVSS 101 or, at the option of the manufacturer if permitted by FMVSS 101, displaying the words “Fasten Seat Belts” or “Fasten Belts”, for not less than 60 seconds (beginning when the vehicle ignition switch is moved to the “on” or the “start” position) when condition (b) exists simultaneously with condition (c), or that
(2) Activates, for a period of not less than 4 seconds and not more than 8 seconds (beginning when the vehicle ignition switch is moved to the “on” or the “start” position), a continuous or flashing warning light visible to the driver, displaying the identifying symbol of the seat belt telltale shown in Table 2 of FMVSS 101 or, at the option of the manufacturer if permitted by FMVSS 101, displaying the words “Fasten Seat Belts” or “Fasten Belts”, when condition (b) exists, and a continuous or intermittent audible signal when condition (b) exists simultaneously with condition (c).
(b) The vehicle's ignition switch is moved to the “on” position or to the “start” position.
(c) The driver's lap belt is not in use, as determined, at the option of the manufacturer, either by the belt latch mechanism not being fastened, or by the belt not being extended at least 4 inches from its stowed position.

For those that are interested, that sound is supposed to be the 'Heartbeat' of the Mustang Pony. My 2024 regular Mustang does it too.

As stated by others, fasten the seat belt first, and you only get one instead of several.

Easy solution: Don't use native nav if the caution bothers you that much.

The startup chime is a lovely, quiet guitar strum. The "doo dee doo" that the OP is annoyed by is a warning chime, in this case because the driver door's open or his seat belt isn't buckled. You won't hear the guitar strum when it's superseded by the warning chime, or if the air conditioning blower noise overpowers it. (It's rather quiet.)

My Fiesta had essentially the same three note warning chime but it was lower fidelity and slightly differently pitched, making it a lot more of a nuisance than the Mach-E's refined take. I learned from the Fiesta to always close the door and buckle up before starting the vehicle.

That’s just a simple way for car manufacturers to put liability on the driver instead of the Navi. You’ll find that same question in every car forum. No, you can’t disable it unless you code your own system.

I guarantee every single one of your cars has a startup chime to remind you to put on the seatbelt, not just when driving. Unless it’s old enough to before seatbelts were required or you have manually disabled it.

My 2013 Nissan Juke did not have any seat belt chime. Not at startup nor while driving. Up through at least the 2017 model years this was still true.

Looking at the NHTSA regulations, the chime and any seat belt requirements is covered under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 208. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/part-571/section-571.208#p-571.208(S7.)(S7.5)

Until recently there was no US federal law on seatbelt chimes or warning. Starting with vehicles produced after 9/1/2026, there will be additional requirements for front occupant alerts. This requirement extends to rear occupant alerts for vehicles produced after 9/1/2027. Don’t believe me? Do a search for the words “audible” or “chime” in the FMVSS I linked above.

That is not the seatbelt chime. That is the door open and startup chime. Startup chime is not a seat belt chime. I owned a Juke for 12 years. The Juke did not have any seat belt chime. I would frequently drive it between buildings at my work without seatbelt and never once was there a seatbelt chime.

The startup chime in any vehicle is a seatbelt reminder chime. Buckle your seat belt before starting and that chime won’t play. Ergo it’s a seatbelt reminder chime.

It’s a different chime than the seatbelt reminder that plays in some cars when moving without a seatbelt.
