They are actually legal only in CA. I have the pilot program paperwork and carry the front plate as required by the program. My first week with the plate on my 2021 (March of 2022) the police here pulled my over 5 times for it. After word got around that it was legal, I haven't been pulled over for it.

That is really funny since tons of people (me included) drive around with no front plate in this area.

Most people can get away with it in the area. I live in a town known for the police nailing the heck out of motorists. If I could get away with it I would, but the vinyl plate is the best compromise I can make.

I got my plates in 2007 and am keeping them for as long as I can. Why? Cuz they're nerdy!
