@Dynamo , I assume from looking at the pictures that there was/were cooling elements on the PCB. Do you have a picture of what that looks like? And where is the IPMA module located?
Thanks.
What type of cooling are you referring to? I have only seen passive cooling in the form of thermal paste.

Couple things.

I sent an IPMA out to have the chip added and it was installed and has worked great for about 2 years now. So if you find someone that is capable of adding the chip it will work.. It is a better option over replacing the IPMA and going through all the recalibrations.

The main point for me was having the side sensors working. They are nice to have working since they are there.

APA is cool but not that great to use real world.

last if you have a 1578 DTC in the IPMA.. And are happy with the quality of the stitching of the 360 cameras..

write and 8 here in the IPMA and it will ford the IPMA to clear the 1578 DTC. This is much easier than going through the 36o cam calibration process. That is a pain and run the risk of making it worse.

Edit. TO quickly test if you have the LIN chip or not, enable the sensors in the IPMA

If you dont have a DTC like this

Bus Signal / Message Failure

Than you are good to go
It depends on the price. I prefer to replace it with a used IPMA chip that you know is good and will work. The cost is similar, since there are already many used MME modules in the junkyard. And if you send it to be re-soldered, your car will be out of commission for several days. And you'll have doubts about whether it's right or wrong if you can't activate the APA.

By the way, how much did it cost you to solder the chip to your IPMA module?

The IPMA I got from a junkyard cost me about 140 Euros.

yOU CAN ACTIVATE apa WITH any IPMA the only difference is the chip missing. That chip is a linbus chip. It is the linbus for the outer sensors. The cars that dont have the outer sensors working are only missing that chip. Those outer sensors are what allows APA to work.

I forget but it was in line with a used IPMa. In US are $400 from what Ive seen.. The F150 IPMA were like 120 -150. So it was a slam dunk to get a new IPMA for those.

So what would activating APA get you without the chip?

I just got a 2025 Rally, would it require the IPMA chip and the coding or does not work at all?

I thought there may have been a form of heat dissipation hardware attached to the thermal paste.

I saw some pictures of the 2025s that don't have the side facing sensors. If you don't have those sensors this may not work.

w/o active hardware, only passive elements

It's a disgrace that they've removed this APA feature from a car that costs this much. It's incomprehensible. I installed an IPMA chip in a 2022 MME and it works wonderfully. Keep in mind that it's a long car, and that's often appreciated, especially here in Europe.

I understand that they're making erratic decisions with the electric vehicles, hence this behavior.

Regards

Hey everyone, I was able to successfully activate on a 2023MY Mach-E. However on 2024/01 built Mach-E Select with side sensors, 360 view camera and PJ8T IPMA there is an issue. All modules get programmed successfully except SOBDMC, it throws a "writing failed" error alongside an "Access denied" error in FORScan, and as expected, a Configuration mismatch DTC. However the side sensing sensors work and display properly in reverse or camera view, yet APA throws an error when trying to activate it. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Write only the block you want to change (Not select "write all"). Delete DTC and try to reboot module.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I tried that as well yesterday, didn't work. SOBDMC has 1 block only so both Write and Write all didn't do any difference, in fact I always do just Write one block instead of Write all.

I tried deleting the DTC, rebooting, and even a self-test procedure just in case, but it didn't help, just rejects any attempt to modify 7E6-01-01, it goes to 100%, waits for a bit then says "Writing block 1 failed" and "Access denied".

Note that all other modules were programmed successfully. I tried also to program in KEY ON ENGINE OFF mode (accessory mode), but that didn't work either. As an experiment I tried to modify 7E6-01-02, to a different value, strangely that worked, but 7E6-01-01 is just plain rejected.
