Actually, the funny thing is we just sold our 112 year old Ford dealership and after all those years I don’t have a contact at Ford that could get me this knob- Bob Chapman Ford Marysville Ohio—an amazing journey with Ford
Wait, you owned a Ford dealership?

Use some of those millions to buy a new screen! šŸ˜‚

I see the superglue worked. But if not, you could look for a totaled junkyard one.

Wow, I did NOT expect to see an actual ball bearing in there. Impressive. The detent mechanism is common enough. I still don't see how they're encoding and transmitting the knob position though
Notice that just inside the outer shell there is a circular flat ring of metal. There is one small spot where that ring has a "bump-out" that extends towards the screen when the knob is glued on. That touches the screen. If you are touching the knob, the conductivity between the knob and that bit of metal means you are "touching" the screen there. As you turn the knob, the screen thinks you are touching it and moving in a circular motion.

They don’t have to. There are small ā€œfingersā€ that touch the screen. When you turn the dial, the ā€œfingersā€ move around the screen šŸ™‚

I figured there must be a capacitive interface. It absolutely makes sense that the chrome paint is extending the fingers' capacitance to the screen. Clever tech! I see the flat metal ring/spring with two protrusions pressing against the detent cavities, but I don't see anything extending to the screen.

Thanks for that great info- I’ll do. Some searching in that area- I have glued the knob somewhat together and. Pushed in back on over the inner knob base and it’s better than nothing- not sure or if the outer ring is removable except by dog teeth!

2023 Mache—new dog pulled. Display control knob off radio and pretty much destroyed it- Ford only shows complete dash unit$1500- any ideas on how to get just knob-online cover won’t work-kind of a techy kind of setup
I purchased a third-party, real metal knob for the volume control and the shifter. It works by fitting over the stock knob. If there's enough left to grab on to, this could fix your issue.
