Just wanted to chime in and say that since activating it, I’ve used APA about a half-dozen times now. As someone else already mentioned - it’s a neat party trick, but in actual use it feels pretty clunky.

So far, I’ve only had the chance to try the auto–back-in feature, and it doesn’t always do a great job detecting the nearest open space. Sometimes it also swings a little too close to the vehicle next to me for comfort.

Most recently, I was in a wide-open lot with generously sized spaces. Twice I tried using APA to back into the spot next to my coworker, and both times it put the car over the line and just inches from their vehicle instead of centering it in the adjacent space. Not ideal.

The system also isn’t very responsive when trying to activate it. I often have to hit the “P” button several times before it comes up on the APMI. Since APA was never officially intended for my Mach-E, I'll cut it some slack, but realistically I’ll probably only use it to occasionally entertain my passengers.

The car doesn’t see the line, instead, the sensors will detect the space between the cars and then “center” the car while parking it.

It's a disgrace that they've removed this APA feature from a car that costs this much. It's incomprehensible. I installed an IPMA chip in a 2022 MME and it works wonderfully. Keep in mind that it's a long car, and that's often appreciated, especially here in Europe.

I understand that they're making erratic decisions with the electric vehicles, hence this behavior.

I don't think you understand at all. Ford is discontinued park assist in every vehicle. Has zero to do with electric vehicles.

I completely understand. Ford is going backwards. The APA is an assistant you can use if it's available. I prefer it to other extras and nonsense that the car has.

I'm clear on this: we're in the 21st century. We'll have to start thinking about another brand for future purchases if Ford continues thinking this way.

Regards

They removed camera spray from the front grille, APA, leg sensor from the trunk. This is already enough to switch to another brand.

But their batteries are awesome, the overall look for the car both interior and exterior is great, build quality could be better in certain places, but it solid overall. It is a good commuter car.

Yes, the car is generally very good and will last us for a few years. That's for sure. But for future purchases, we'll have to look at other brands.

Camera sprayer and kick sensor are decontenting of the model. May, or may not, be in future models, or trim levels.

APA has been eliminated from all Ford vehicles going forward.

Well, I'd remove many other things before the APA. They're selling the BlueCruise idea: autonomous car, but they're removing the APA. In my opinion, Ford is floundering. And they're facing a tough challenge with the Chinese, who are coming on strong.

By the way, if they're removing the APA, what on earth is the point of including the four side sensors?

I just don't understand their strategy.

Probably less expensive to keep the sensors there than to redesign the bumpers without them.

MY 2023. Just did this mod using Forscan. Now I have a persistent DTC in SOBDMC U053B:86:2F

I drove around several miles, and I can see the side sensors activate when I pull into my garage now, but that error persists. Any advice?

Run a self-test and reboot the SOBDMC module, the DTC should disappear.

Hello. Do you have 12 parking sensors? 6 in front and 6 in back? I've just never seen a 2025 with 12 sensors and it's strange to me. Regarding your error - MY25 is a different car, the architecture has changed, the communication between the modules is different and, unfortunately, these changes may not work for 2025. I'll find the VIN and look, I'll try to figure something out, but it won't work 100% if you don't have 12 sensors.

Hey, my post had a typo...I have a 2023 not 2025. I apologize for the confusion.

There need to be 4 front sensors, 4 rear sensors, and 4 side sensors (2 on each side). On the other hand, I don't know if the 2025 model has removed the hardware that supports the APA (Automatic Parking Assist System). That is, if the IPMA includes the chip that controls the 4 side sensors. We would need to see the electrical diagram for these 2025 cars on PTS.
