I have a ‘22 GTPE that will be 3 years old in 3 week. I have an appointment in 2 weeks for a speaker issue and the recent recall. Coinciding with the recall notification going live on the app I now have a warning to check 12v battery. I’ve also attached my OBD readout for it. To me the battery seems fine and I can safely wait 2 weeks for my appointment, I’m just not sure why the warning popped up.

Your 12V SOC does look OK, but check the voltage with a meter and the car off, let it sit a while. I got the message after 4 years and my resting voltage was 12.3, which is low for an AGM, it should be about 12.9. I replaced my 12V and the message went away.

AZBill gave good advice. And no point messing with not replacing the 12v. 3 years is not unreasonable.

I was actually making my way out to the forums here to share that my 2021 Mach-E First Edition that I took possession of in March 2021 had received that notification 5 days ago and I safely drove the vehicle until my service appointment today and I am having them just go ahead and replace the original 12v battery since it is also there having the recall work done and the 40K mile service. Here I had been hoping to go another couple of years on the original just to see if it could be done, but oh well.

I had mine checked during my three-year service and it was marginal, so they replaced it under warranty. Were I the OP, I'd likely try to get it in sooner if possible. Dead 12V batteries suck. Especially bad on an EV! (Kinda like the time I ran out of gas on my Prius 🤣)*

*It wasn't my fault; the gas gauge was reading 3 bars when the tank was empty!

That message means it's time tor replace your 12V battery. You can probably wait a couple weeks, but I wouldn't go much longer than that in case it rapidly declines.

The message is not because the battery has a low state of charge, it means the battery is degraded and will not hold as much charge anymore.

I’m getting a failure on an OTA for low battery. I had my original 12v replaced when the Hvb connection recall about 20 months ago
Going for a long drive tomorrow to see if that boosts it enough
Having service mobile come out Monday for recall software. I wonder if they have batteries with them??

Has anyone gotten this warning after the 12V Recall? Mine is 3 yrs old and haven’t had the warning yet.
The recall doesn’t do anything to extend or prolong 12V battery life. It’s only to prevent a specific lockout/entrapment scenario.

But you shouldn’t be caught off guard with a dead battery.

There is simply no reliable way to predict 12V battery life and health. You can monitor voltage but a bad battery can still have good voltage. You can have algorithms to monitor voltage and discharge to look for patterns that may signify a weak battery but it’s never foolproof. They can and will die with no warning, as they have in every single car for the last several decades.

The difference is with an ICE car you have more warning signs for a dying battery such as a weak cranking starter. In an EV there is no heavy load draw device like that so it works until it doesn’t. The most reliable thing we can go by in an EV is age. Right around the 3-4 year mark is when they tend to fail. And it’s not just Ford. Tesla has the same issue in their older cars so this is not even a problem Tesla with their supposed superior software can solve. Tesla switched to a proprietary Lithium LV battery around 2022 to avoid the 12V issue.

Can you still use a jump pack to start it? I’ll start carrying one.

If it just slightly failed to where you were still able to open the door but not start the car, a jump pack could potentially help.

Otherwise like Mach Lee said, it won’t be of any use to you since it will be locked inside the car.

And most jump packs have a failsafe where they won’t deliver power unless they detect a battery/load is connected. The leads for the frunk won’t appear as a battery to most jump packs and therefore won’t even be able to pop the frunk. You specifically need a jump pack with an override/manual/bypass mode or just plain old jumper cables connected to another car to pop the frunk.
