Just wanted to share an experience with my 22 Mach E California Route with 47k miles.

the front drive motor failed in the freeway.

Dashboard started giving lots of warning signs. Pulled aside and tried restarting the car but I could no longer drive it after that. It would only stay in “Full Accessory Power” mode. Attach video later.

Used FordPass towing, which took two hours to tow to dealership, free.

I’m out of the regular warranty but luckily transmission warranty was still good to cover this. If I didn’t have warranty cost would’ve been $1850. Attached details about repair.

The part was in back order so it took 3 weeks to repair. I had a regular Mustang coupe loaner for the meantime.

it’s scary to have this type of breakdowns with no idea what the repair entails nor the price it would cost until it’s diagnosed by the dealership.

One video was while driving.

Other video was after turning off the car and trying to turn it back on.

Glad your back in it, and that you had a loaner, seems like a lot of dealers refuse to provide them now.

When it failed did the car still have decent power before you got to the shoulder and shut down? What was the driving experience like during that time?

Long time ago I had a rear end go out on the freeway, that car completely locked the rear, but was front wheel drive, so I was able to keep power to the shoulder dragging the rear tires.

Is this any different than if the transmission or engine had seized up in a traditional ICE vehicle?

I just paid $2500 to have the front axles in my 2016 Highlander Hybrid replaced at 164K miles.

I'm confused. I thought the whole point of the "California Route 1" trim is that it's basically a GT without the front motor in order to prioritize range over performance...

Interesting.

What does the 5/60 even cover then?
Link to warranty.

Ford Mustang Mach-E front drive motor fail at 47k $1850 5877
Some of the relevant bits:

5/60
Your vehicle’s Powertrain components are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The extended Powertrain coverage applies to all components of the driveline that are not specifically covered by the Electric Vehicle Component warranty. Powertrain components that receive warranty coverage for five years or 60,000 miles may include gears, differential, shafts, fluid pumps, seals and gaskets, bearings, mounts, drive shaft, retainers, supports, universal and constant velocity joints.

8/100
The high voltage battery and eDrive systems of your vehicle are covered by the Electric Vehicle Component coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. High voltage battery and eDrive components covered by this warranty include the high voltage battery assembly, Bussed Electrical Center (BEC), Battery Energy Control Module (BECM), on-board charger, Inverter System Controller (ISC),
DC/DC converter, and eDrive. If a covered component requires replacement under the Electric Vehicle Component warranty, it may be replaced with a new, factory remanufactured, or factory refurbished component, at Ford’s discretion. Refurbished battery components selected for your vehicle will align with your vehicle’s age and mileage and meet Ford’s requirements and standards

Pretty sure it's still dual motor awd, just smaller motors to increase range. I think they sacrificed some other stuff like power lift gate, etc. (Edit: Looks like they changed it for my23 forward to be AWD, my21-22 were RWD.)

His quote seemed low to me, could've sworn I'd seen others getting closer to 5k quotes, but maybe thats due to his smaller motor...

I called multiple dealers around the area to see which one had loaners available before towing it to them.

Yes, when it failed, it still had decent power for me to drive it to the shoulder and shut it down. Driving experience, it was a little shaky, and I felt like the power was a decreasing gradually.

Your incident with the rear going out, was that an EV?

No, well before my EV time. It was the first car I ever owned, '86 Mazda 323.
