So I finally took my 24 Mach E Premium in to have the paint looked at by my local Ford dealership. My service advisor agreed that it was probably crazing but they cant fix it their at the dealership so I had to take it to my local Acura dealership because their bodyshop is "Ford certified". The gentleman at the body shop told me that they get about 6 of the Mach E a year for paint work. I was told that my car would be in the shop for about 3 months. While I am not happy with a car that is only 2 years old and about 9K miles on it needs to be repainted already, I am looking forward to the terrible paint being fixed. When my lease it up I am defenitly not keeping the Mach E. Since Ford has killed the Lightning in its current form, chances are very high that I will get an EV from another company.

Is it so bad that you would have it fixed under lease? 3 months is a long time to spend and making payments to fix someone else’s car.

The body shop person told me that all the plastic has to come off and they have to redo the car as if it were being painted from the factory. The total cost that Ford is paying is around 16,200.

But are they giving you 3 free months on the lease?
I wish. I get a dealer car for the time that my car is in the shop. granted the cars that I acess to are limited to a mileage limit. Then I have to trade that loaner out for another loaner.

Not sure I'd fix what is really the Dealer's problem. They know about it and take responsibility and it's documented. I'd just finish the lease with the shitty paint job!!! Unless they are compensating you in some way with a free Mach E Loaner or extending your lease for 3 months with no additional charge (including mileage). #sand!!!

Sorry to hear about your paint. As a fellow black Mach E owner, your experience and some prior posts has me wondering if this might be in my future. We took delivery on Oct 20, 2025 so tomorrow we hit 37 weeks since delivery with a little over 17K miles. Manufacturing date was June, 2025. At this rate we will be done with the full warranty mid-April 2027. I keep my car garaged and wash it by hand but haven’t been overly fussy.. I am planning to give the car a good coat of wax and hope to repeat that at least annually. Except for some very minor scratches and chips that I’ve touched up, I’m not seeing anything concerning with the paint besides black being hard to keep looking clean. Question I have is if this crazing on your car is something that slowly appears on certain panels and worsened over time. Would you be able to post a picture?

this is good to know and a good point. My dealer took note of the roof, side and quarter panels, and I am to receive a call from the body shop "soon". Three or 4 months of paying the lease is just not right, even with the loaner.

I think that I will keep the car, and so that's why I may take it in to get the paint redone. But otherwise, yeah, hang on to the bad paint for the length of the lease.

This sucks.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but my understanding is the problem the OP is having is a known paint process issue that impacted a batch of Mach E cars and the paint issue appears within a few years of ownership. If caught within the full warranty, some have been able to successful get Ford to repaint their car. I’ve seen nothing that says it’s color specific but as black tends to highlight defects ,I’m thinking it becomes more obvious, I feel bad for owners that have had this happen and I hope Ford has fully resolved whatever caused the issue at the factory. If it does though appear on my car, I would certainly like to catch it within my warranty period as spending thousands to repaint my car out of pocket is not something I would expect to do. That being said, I plan to keep enjoying our Mach E And using it in all weather conditions. I also plan to keep an eagle eye on my paint as I do like having a shiny car. Where I live, the unavoidable long term ownership issue is rust corrosion from road salt. I routinely hand wash my cars and flush out the fenders and underbody with the spray hose. That and an occasional wax has kept the paint on my now nearly 10 year old Ford Flex looking great but it is starting to show a few under paint rust bubbles. That is to way it goes with all makes and models of metal cars around here that get used all year round..

If you don't plan on keeping it, I would drive it like it is and Ford can fix it after you turn it in. Seems like a hassle for you to deal with and no upside.

Will the car still be under full warranty when the lease expires and you turn in back into the dealership? If not then I would be inclined to get this fixed under warranty now and insist they give you an equivalent free loaner car for the duration of the repair. This way you’ll be able to see how the new paint job comes out and even consider if it makes sense to buy it when the lease is up. My concern would be if you don’t get it repaired under warranty then Ford or the dealership will impose some kind of excessive wear and tear charge for turning in a leased car with defective paint. I may be wrong but my experience is dealerships and car companies will do all possible to get out of paying an expensive warranty claim.

Have you called around to any other Ford certified body shows to see if they can get the job down sooner? 3 months is long wait.

I had to take mine in for warranty paint and it was able a week and the body shop gave me the old fender back, not sure why.

Its not just Ford who's paint is hot garage. My wife has a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek and its has to be painted 4 times in 3 years and its due to get painted again. The body shops she has taken it to said the paint auto makers are using is just bad. Some are putting too much thinner in the paint.
