Definitely no comparison in the looks department. Boxy vs sleek. Surprised just how much smaller the short hood makes the ID.4 look.
I think I should have backed up about 6 more inches and then the rear bumpers would have been aligned and it would have made the photos of the front more representative. It seemed like both cars were pretty darn close to the same length so I guess the windshield must slope more forward in the VW than the MME.

Rear headroom exactly the same. Rear cargo space looked nearly identical as well.
The ID.4 has a place for a key in case the LVB dies. There is a cover that pops off near the door handle to insert the key. The panoramic roof has a motorized shade which is already helpful out here. Front seats have separate arm rests. I think I like that better compared to the shared armrest but am undecided.

The wheels look fake. Those large black areas are painted alum so they are really aero wheels which is okay but in person they look like a movie prop. The door panels are all plastic.....very cheap looking by comparison. Maybe the production version will be nicer?

Is the ID.4 about 75% of the price of a Mach-E? If so, then a pretty good value. If it costs more than probably not too great of a value. Just my opinion now that I have seen them side by side.

The ID.4 is a lot of good EV value for the cost. Some of the features from the EU versions are missing (e.g. 360 view, heat pump, Augmented Reality HUD, DCC (chassis control)), but our U.S. ID.4 cost is also relatively low, especially after the fed tax credit (plus the VW ID.4 lease passes the entire $7.5k to the lessee). All U.S. models come with travel assist, which is only optional in the EU. Here is a snippet of a spread sheet from the ID.4 forum many months back (possibly the leasehacker sheet, don't remember):

The "1st" is equivalent to ID.4 Pro + Statement Gradient, plus a 1" tow receptacle and ball, so there was another $2k incentive to buy a 1st (despite the white wheel).

It looks like a super nice EV, well worth trying someday. I am holding out now for the equivalent of the EU 1st Max with all the bells and whistles and for the software to get sorted out a bit more, and maybe even for the inevitable return of the volume knob :)

I've been trying a new PHEV or EV every year or two (MME is number 7), so maybe an ID.4 "Max" AWD is next on my list. Although Louiebluey could screw up my plan, because I also like MME much more than I expected (bought the extended warranty too, just incase this turns out to be a long term relationship).

It's a visual trick I think. The Mustang looks so much longer because of the "Mustang" long hood, and the ID.4 looks like a minivan with that very short hood. Maybe I'm just nuts haha

Did not realize the ID.4 had wider tires (and staggered tires!) than the Mustang Mach-E. I'd *LOVE* to have had 255s on the rear on the Mach-E, would help with my grip concerns a lot I think.

Overall it seems like a solid, if pedestrian vehicle. Nowhere near as stunning as Mach-E. I'm still going to go test drive one when/if one ever shows up at my local VW dealer. Idk if they're even EV certified.

Wish we had the 3-year EA deal though, I'd trade Plug&Charge for that. But yeah, no reason ID.4 can't have launched with P&C since VW owns EA. Makes me scratch my head why they didn't get that done on time.

I see it too. I was expecting my car to dwarf that one but then I parked right by it and got out and was surprised.

The MME is much nicer in many ways.....no doubt. But, that ID.4 checks a lot of boxes for a lot of families so I think it will do pretty well. I think my brother might be interested in one....

Do you know which trim level I was looking at based on the photos? He told me it was AWD but I didn't know to look for any other identification.

True, but I bought the car for Mustang driving fun. I still think it needs more tire, an optional summer set would have been awesome, I'd have bought that. Or a "performance pack" with more rubber.
I am definitely going with summer tires once these all seasons wear out. The iPace that I raced yesterday had summer tires and it pretty much ate my lunch. I know summer tires won't make up the difference but it will help......and might even make the ride a little better.

I think the sidewalls are too stiff and compromising the ride quality a bit. I understand why.....but if I can improve it just a little bit without taking the 'sport' out of the equation then I will be happier.

I reset my obsessed brain from ID.4 to MME in the last month or so, let's see what I can remember. If it is a FE, it would have a "1st" badge on the side fender, otherwise, I guess "Pro" (?). If it does not have a white steering wheel, it is not a FE.

The Pro + statement has 19" wheels, the Pro + statement + gradient has 20" wheels.

There are more subtle differences like the matrix looking headlights vs. the regular LED headlights.

Unless it is an oddball demo / experimental unit, it almost certainly is not AWD yet. They were supposed to come out with the AWD around June/July, but I think AWD got delayed to fall 21 now.

okay, looks like a Pro S with Gradient package (RWD) because of the headlights (they actually turn towards the side when the car turns) and the silver roof rack: (in the EU the matrix headlights, rather then auto-dimming from brights, literally just blank out only the narrow direction to another car, another feature we missed, said to be due to U.S. regulations).

Also LOL the route planner isn't even suggesting Electrify America chargers... wonder if VW doesn't want to pay out on that incentive :p
