I have never mentioned any News network in all my posts. But today
on CNN they stated we must prepare ourselves for a second wave and
combined with normal flu will be worse this fall and winter. Many people's
hopes have now been shattered hearing this. They all must shut up about
depressing news that may never happen. Do my post sound like I'm loosing
it now ?? For someone who was not going to post today I have said enough.
A doctor I follow on twitter who knows about such things has been saying that very thing for a while, so it doesn't surprise me. Also, that is what happened with the Spanish Flu, it started the winter before, was bad but relatively brief and then came back in the fall to the northern hemisphere and was devastating. No one likes bad news for sure, but best not to have head in sand, not you specifically, but all of us in general. Relative to my previous post, I want the president to use his national defense powers, don't know what it is really called, and get companies making tests, for both covid and the antibodies over the summer so we can be ready to respond in the fall. I hope it happens. Knowing this info can help and plan for people. I have a son who is supposed to go to Copenhagen for his fall term of college coming up. Now, we are having serious discussions about whether he should take a gap year, because it appears right now that not only will he not be going abroad, but likely he would still have to do remote learning and that really is not what he signed up for. He also plays on the baseball team, and he missed out on this years season, will he play next spring? Who knows. We would need a crystal ball. I think realistically, until we have a vaccine, this sort of game of wack a mole will be our world. To me, the worst thing I have heard, and cover your eyes Sweetwater, is there is no guarantee we will have a vaccine in a year or year and a half. Mumps took 4 years, and that was one of the fastest developed. Now, we are more sophisticated today so, let's hope. But, god forbid if it takes 2 or 3 or 4 years to develop.

There are very few ‘reporters’ at these daily briefings that ask questions that are truly directed at uncovering useful information on the virus or it’s impact on the economy. Many have only one objective, how can we try to make Trump look bad. The hell with the economy or the people.

I actually laugh when the President calls on CNN and as he’s about to do that, prefaces it with “OK, here we go”. Almost every single question starts off with either, “You said on March 14...” or “If you hadn’t screwed up, don’t you think the virus could have been stopped in its tracks?” (or something to that effect). They repeat the same questions every single day. Unreal.

Of course rather than making a fool of Trump, he makes a fool of them. He’s a lot smarter than they are. I understand they’re following the marching orders of Jeff Zucker, but geesh, the hatred is so obvious. Have you ever looked at their faces when they ask these inane questions? There’s venom dripping from their lips, whether it’s the clown Jim Acosta (who, in actuality, many in the media do not like) or the young guy whose name eludes me.

I had the most fun watching the briefing where when getting a question from a Chinese reporter, Trump’s gut told him the reporter worked for some Chinese state run media operation. She denied it, but it later came out that he was bang-on correct. The woman simply lied (what a surprise).

I always say to my wife that Trump has an amazing level of self control at these briefings. I would lose it with their daily exhibitions of stupidity. But he seems to thrive on it.
Trump is a freak of nature for sure. You can love or hate his policies and actions, but the guy has a motor and a mind running at full power 24/7 it seems and at his age it is something I could never dream of being able to do. Again, regardless of the love/hate opinion on him, he is amazing to watch.

Seems to me that this thread is getting completely political and is turning into a Trump bashing thread. Please remember the aims of this forum

Macheforum.com is an independent and privately-owned forum created by enthusiasts and for enthusiasts of the Ford Mustang Mach E™.

Our goal is to build a community of owners, fans and engaged readers to discuss the latest news, information and rumors about the Mustang Mach E.

Thankyou
While I can't argue your sentiments on some of the bashing commentary, the underlying subject of this thread is "Reopening America?" Obviously that subject will get into political subjects, although the partisan bickering should stay to a minimum. I think all but one of the members in this thread are keeping their commentary mostly reasonable.

I appreciate any constructive input you would like to add to this thread!

I wholeheartedly agree that mass testing is key to across the board comfort of the population, but I don't think we can wait that long to restart the economy. Based on recent evidence emerging, the virus seems highly unlikely to be a major issue to anyone without an underlying condition. As long as we can bring down the likelihood of transmission using our mitigation (mask, hand washing, distancing, etc.) I think it is prudent for those that are healthy to begin getting back to work.
Epidemiology is an unfortunately simple concept to think we understand (mostly maths) yet really is a complicated concept once you play out the scenarios.

There is a lot of focus on "me" ... e.g., how likely am I to get this disease, how likely am I to suffer from it if I do. Let us play out a scenario, however, to test how fruitful such questions are:

I am a person in the "low risk / no underlying conditions" category. Fine, I go out to work, play, etc. With so many people out and about, my risk for contracting the virus goes up, and let's say I get it, but since I'm so darn healthy I am asymptomatic. Then, I go visit my mom's or maybe my pop's and they are in their mid to upper 60s with underlying conditions. Oops, now I've given it to them.

so, yes, _I_ am safe, happy, fine, but now I've infected someone else.

If we continue this scenario, we have to talk about how to prevent it from happening (or, we just admit that it is not worth preventing). I've thought about this a lot, and unfortunately the most logical conclusion is that people with underlying conditions should literally not socialize with anyone, ever, for the next maybe year.

BTW, previous very depressing last post of mine notwithstanding, I am really open to hearing from others on their thoughts on scenarios. I understand the balance of having to go about life vs. combating the virus, but I'm getting more and more depressed at what this means for society going forward. I've switched from being optimistic we could get a hold of it within a couple of months to thinking, it will be 18 months from now and 1 million dead in America before we really have a handle. Sorry to be so depressing. Can anyone cheer me up?

The information posts keep on coming. That's good as everyone can voice
their opinion. We learn some and we disagree also. Still not on this Thread
is what I had asked in the beginning. IF the slow opening of shops etc. starts
are YOU WILLING to go out and join the crowds ? Truth be it I am not. Yes I
want to do my part but damn it they can not open this soon. So now tell
us here and now will YOU participate ?
No. I'm personally convinced we'll see wave after wave, and I am not personally willing to be a guinea pig to test that theory out.

I am Upset with this admin about its failure to get testing available. I am really concerned about the economy for all the reasons everyone has mentioned. If we had testing widely available we could be goiNg back to work now with much more confidence. This is a failure of the past but it is preventing us from safely moving forward. What a disgrace that Maryland had to secretly get 500k tests from South Korea. They had their first case the same day we did.
I do think we need to be realistic about testing. There are 330 million people in this country. We will not be able to do testing massive enough in the short term to effectively test all people and find the ones infected early. You might have to test tens of millions each day for weeks and then ramp down as cases are identified. We don't have the testing capacity to do that right now. Unless we can come up with a "pregnancy test" version for COVID-19, we probably never will be able to test that many. There is also the rate of "false positives" and "false negatives" to deal with since the tests will not be perfect.

One suggestion I heard recently from the economy restart team was to test everyone that presents to a doctor each day. That would be 300,000 to 400,000 people per day. That, I believe, is doable and can be used to help find hotspots and minimize spread.

This is speculation at best and and downright irresponsible and hurtful at worst. This kind of "information" is only meant to keep their ratings up and to make political commentary. It is by no means being said to help anyone move forward. Please be aware that media is NOT looking out for you. Their main goal is to make money off of you as best they can and promote whatever their agenda of the day is.

Stay strong @Sweetwater. If a story sounds sensational, it probably is bullcrap, especially if they are speculating on the future.

Thanks @TheSteelRider. Absolutely, if your parents are at risk you probably don't see them in the flesh. Or maybe you visit them outdoors from 6ft away and with masks? Or maybe 10ft away and downwind without masks? There are ways to keep everyone as safe as possible and still go about our lives.

We need to get creative. Mitigation should bring the transmission rate way down. I also think that interacting OUTDOORS brings the transmission rate way down. Another new thing coming out. People were told by our smart government that we should stay home/stay indoors to stay safe. Now it is coming out that indoor transmission is MUCH more likely than outdoor transmission. Makes sense when you think about it, but many of our illustrious leaders told us the opposite.

With all the focus on this disease, I highly doubt the deaths will be anywhere near the million you stated. Especially if we keep on with the mitigation techniques (distancing, masks, washing, etc.) I think we can keep the spread under control. Treatments and mitigation will continue to improve. Stay positive, that in itself will help keep you healthy!

I think we can all find some good ways to live our lives and visit loved ones and still stay safe. All we need is to think about it and then have our overbearing governments allow people to do the right things.
