So I decided to have ceramic coating applied to my grabber blue FE. It was the first time I’ve ever done this (and this is my first brand new car ever...after 4 used ones) and I couldn’t be more pleased! It really brings out the metallic color and the gloss looks amazing! It was expensive (~$1400) but we’ll worth it in my opinion since I plan on keeping it for at least 6 years.

So there's the pro shop coating at $1k and more cost.... and there the DIY products wayyyyy cheaper.

So what's the diff?
- how long will the pro product last compared to DIY? I've seen some that need to be reaplied every3-4 months or so... but 50$ a bottle will last you 2 yrs or so.
- Is there something else that is different between having it done at big cost or doing it yourself?

Looks great. I did the same. Which ceramic did you go with? My detailer used Opti-Coat.

Mine is guaranteed to last at least 5 years (likely much longer if you maintain it properly). Part of the expense is that they do paint correction to remove scratches, swirls, and other defects, some of which occurred at the factory, so then the coating seals in the best look. The detailed I went to has nothing but rave reviews and goes above and beyond so I felt comfortable paying a bit more to get it done right. In the past I’ve been more of a DIY guy, but I decided to pay a bit extra and have the pros do it.

I see thanks!

You can dig deep into your wallet when buying a new car that you want to keep looking good for a long time!

I've always been a DIYer, claybar twice a year, wax twice a year, always keeping cars cleaned. To be honest, I've never had a car looking bad even my Sierra truck after 8yrs, nobody would give it that age how well it looked.

I've been starting to look at PPF, then ceramic and I am having trouble convincing myself of the money it costs.... And I can't see how I'd be able to get this by my wife!!!! She's the one with demanding needs usually!!!

So I'll probably stick with a good DIY product... but... that looks real sharp the pro job!

I bought a bottle of meguires liquid hybrid ceramic wax based upon reviews I read. People also give Turtle Wax surprisingly good reviews. Will have to clay bar it first, but I hear the new Speed Clay applicators make it easier. in the past I was pretty happy with Klasse products and this is supposed to be better. Will invest savings into PPF.

You could do a DIY ceramic coat that would last for years, just do the right prep before applying and use the right product. You pay more from the pro shop because the prep is costly, it takes times to do it right.

Obviously, and they like to charge lots for "luxury" products!

I went with the PPF for the front end. I was very concerned since there is not grill and that means a lot of painted surface in the front. My PPF has held up very well. I would do it again. I also use the hybrid ceramic. It is very easy to apply, and looks great.
