The older cars are actually easier to keep as their design is simple. A carburetor is easy to work on versus a fuel injection. Introducing computers and sensors into cars made things more complicated.

Jay Leno has collectible 100-year old EV's. He had to change out the battery packs and put new brushes in them (but modern EV's are brushless). EV's have the benefit of much lower internal temperatures and not being contaminated by corrosive and toxic combustion by-products. No fuel lines, mufflers, headers, catalytic converters, pcv valves, fuel injectors, pistons, valves, rocker arms, cam shafts, exhaust pipes, fuel pumps, alternators, transmission clutches and selectable gears, gear shift linkage, etc., etc, etc.

But your average person just wants to get to work, not restore old worn-out cars.

A gas tank has no moving parts either.

The battery in a BEV is the same as a gas tank in an ICE.

Well, I did not want to get into this, but the complexity of an ICE is far beyond a BEV, even down to the gas tank.

On my 2016 F-150 part 13 is an electric fuel pump. Definitely moving parts.

But that is small potatoes. How about a ten speed tranny, more complex by itself than the MME rear drive.

Not all EV's have low resale.

Nissan had inferior battery monitoring software in their Leaf EV's (and no active thermal management system) and that greatly impacted resale values. The Bolt had an aesthetic problem, LOL! And the batteries did not last as long as the market leader's batteries.

On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 has the best resale value in the business. This is a positive driver of it's lower total cost of ownership.

This is the kind of enviable resale value an EV can have when the manufacturer knows how to make the batteries last 4-8 times as long.

It's a false narrative that Tesla's are less reliable. J.D. Powers was not measuring reliability, they were measuring dealer visits in the first few months of ownership. If that's what you think reliability means, I have some beautiful Florida waterfront to sell you.

Our two Model 3's have 3 years of perfect reliability and I don't expect that to change. They are primarily solid state devices unlike the outdated technology of internal combustion cars.

But the typical car buyer doesn't want to spend their week-ends replacing old, dirty and oily worn-out parts, they just want to get to work in a reliable and convenient manner without getting greasy or the smell of gasoline or diesel on them.

Look, you're a fan of gas powered cars, that's perfectly fine.

Just be aware that the majority of people will not cling to old ways of doing things when a better, cheaper way to achieve the same thing is presented to them.

Faster, cheaper, better handling, more powerful, more reliable - it's winning combination that people will not overlook. People always adopt the product that is faster, better and cheaper. It's not even a question mark.

Sure, there will always be outliers and I can see you are in that category. But that won't stop other people from adopting the superior solutions. It never does.

What exactly makes a superior solution is for the consumers to decide. You are only one consumer. Every year consumers are deciding EV in increasing numbers. And the rate of that change is happening exponentially.

If you believe the rate of adoption is going to slow down and level off over the next 5 years, you will be wrong. Adoption curves are never linear, they are always exponential "S" curves.
