You don't own it until you've cut a hole in it! The first time I drill into the exterior of a new-to-me vehicle is a special moment. Just wait until we start putting on riv-nut mounted roof racks.
you're saying you never forget your first? ?

Too funny, I did not even try putting the head in the hole first. I bet that would work. But the grinding worked as well.

I think I will go back and edit my post to include your tip right up front though it sounds like a good one
It is possible to get the bolts through without grinding in the direction indicated in the instructions, at least mine went in. At first I was sure they would not go and was preparing to grind, but after fiddling with one for quite a while it just popped through! I never was able to determine what orientation worked, but persistence with each one finally got them all in.

Also, I used large tin snips to make both cut outs. That was pretty easy I and was happy with the results.

per an earlier comment, I've revised my original post to suggest trying feeding the bolts in head-first..... I think that will allow a better angle and easier feed-thru.

An American using (and knowing about) centimeters!!!!

Just kidding, but I was on another forum not too long ago and I got shit from a few American members that told me to use real measurements because cm were useless and I quote "for sissies"

ROFLMAO!

I work w a lot of bike parts, and Solar stuff, that is in mm.... and my steel ruler in mm is easier to read than the inches side in 1/32, or my little ruler in .010 ....

I hear you, I work in feet and inches for most of the things I do, but when things go below 1/4", I switch to cm/mm, more precise and easier to not get mixed up

Unless you go "That's 4" and 1/4 less 2 little lines" ;)

Sigh...as an avid road and MTB cyclist, I sure hope a roof rack becomes available that doesn't involve drilling holes or suction cups.

About 6 years ago I installed a hitch on my wife's (at the time) Honda CR-V, which also included fascia trimming, and it's not an exercise I'd like to repeat on my MME when it arrives this fall.

If they'd only included unobtrusive roof rails, such as those on my Mini!

nice job on the mini.... but just try lifting your MTB up and reaching over the MME roof.... It would be a stretch for me, and I'm 6' tall and ok to lift a 30# muddy MTB. Be a struggle with a 50# eBike. ;)

hitch rack is WAY preferable in my book. facia trimming turned out to be quick, easy, and hitch is pretty unobtrusive after install.... unless you put a big ol receiver cover on.

I'm 6'2" and previously owned a Mercedes ML320 (much taller than the MME) with a roof rack, and didn't have a problem. Although I must say that I have a preference for high-end bikes, so they're pretty light ;-)

yup, its a '62. I was going to convert to electric.... but it really needs suspension and brake restoration before that, so I may have to sell it since restorations are really not my thing.
Restored our inherited 62 Pickup and put Willwood brakes on it, good kits and instructions. I had no option not to restore it but understand selling. Pulling and replacing motors and working on suspensions is not most peoples idea of fun. Nice looking little car.
